  1. There will always be someone who will break any given law, just because they think they will get away with it.

  2. In some civil liberty cases.

  3. No. With this logic there would be no laws. There would be chaos.

  4. Not sure what law your talking about??? but people break the law no matter what it is so does that mean we should have no laws? like child molestation...she we make it legal because other countries do it or because others are breaking this law and destroying peoples lives?  we need laws to discourage others not to do these things....but should we have laws that are enforced and they are not as important as another law and they waste time on it...like self abuse laws...should we fine someone thousands of dolllars for trying to commit suicide but give 30 days probation for sexual rape....? or should we put a person in jail for stealing 5 bucks and let off someone with a slap in the wrist for beating their wives?husbands? the court system is what is messing up the laws....so dont know what you are talking about but ..It was an effort lol good day

  5. No. . . you need a lot more substance to the argument to be able to do that.  Sometimes, you can sort of fool yourself into thinking that's why your government did that, but it often takes quite a bit more cost-benefit analysis than that.

When I drive home shortly, I'm probably going to break the law at least a few times.  (Shh, don't tell my local PD about this.)  99%+ of the population probably does this at least once in a while. . . we call it "speeding".  Should we revoke these laws and just let everyone drive whatever speed they feel like?

It might cut down on the number of elderly people driving 20 mph on the highway with their turn signal on for 10 miles, but. . . nah, let's not do that.  At least this way, almost everyone is driving about the same speed -- the speed limit, +/- 15%.

  6. why is this in women's studies.? and yes the Conservative fascist outlawed drinking and look how long that lasted. they outlawed it cause they were teetotalers and it was mostly poor liberals that drank during the roaring 20s. and now days its poor liberals who cant afford the rich fascist Conservative pharmaceutical drugs for anxiety and depression so they turn to cheap alternatives and the Conservative fascist make them illegal over the past 100 years.

  7. It depends.

When the consequences of making something illegal are worse than legalizing it (as is the case with drug laws, for instance), than making it illegal is stupid and wrong.

But that's not the only factor in whether to make something illegal or legal. For example, if there's nothing wrong in the act, then it shouldn't be illegal.

  8. We would not have any laws because some people break every law.  There are murderers, so we should not make murder against the law?  That doesn't make any sense.

  9. This seems to be the case in some cases.  I think that it would be a better question if you mentioned what law specifically you were referring to.  I think when a law removes a person's right to choose, and  person autonomy over their own bodies that this law has no right to be enacted in the first place.  The specific law I am referring to is Roe vs Wade and abortion.

  10. The problem is that most people can't handle revocation.

    If they could......They'd legalize drugs.

In a state like New Mexico, how are you going to legalize drugs when most people can't even handle alcohol?

    Does anybody have some crack.

And don't make me go to rehab.

    Amy Winehouse

  11. Of course some will do it, no it is not a good reason to revoke it.  If you revoke the law you cannot punish someone for breaking it.

  12. No.. but some laws are stupid and useless.

Its stupid for it to be illegal to buy ice cream after 10 pm. This is a REAL law in one of the southern states.. forgot which one. Its stupid for it to be illegal to pump your own gas (New Jersey). Sure, it creates jobs... but its stupid to take away the freedom of doing it yourself if you want to. Its stupid to owe your ex-wife money after a divorce because she is "used to the lifestyle" are you kidding me????

Some laws are just plain STUPID and need to be revoked.

  13. No.  Many people drive drunk, or have done so at one time or another, it should still be illegal.  You should still be punished for it.

  14. yes ,not all laws are just. and no it is not a good reason to revoke laws

  15. dumb question...

  16. Bewarega: you must know that prohibition grew out of the temperance movement and that was one of the first real womens movements.

Prohibition wasn't a conservative action it was just a bad idea.

As for breaking a law you just don't agree with I'm sure NAMBLA would be right there thinking the same thing!

So clearly good laws are in place to provide reasonable security to the populace and encourage people to conduct themselves honorably. There are plenty of bad laws to be sure but breaking them is rarely the right thing to do.

  17. It depends. If making the something illegal will result in a great deal of deaths that would not otherwise occur, then it should stay legal.

  18. I think I have a law that allows people to get away with exposing themselves!

In Victoria, Australia, it is perfectly legal to urinate in public, be you male or female, so long as you aim the stream at one of the rear tyres/wheels of your own cart (or motor car).  This law has been tested in the last few years and with success.

To your question, there are a lot of petty laws around, and there needs to be a cleaning out of the statute books.  There needs to be a balance between maintaing law and order and micro-managing the population: such management is aimed at acheiving income from fines, and often to push social agendas that a lobby group wants enacted.

  19. It depends on how many people are breaking the law.  At all times with all laws there will be people who break them, but those people are punished and society applauds the punishment.  People obey laws that they respect, that have a reason.

Then there are some laws that 40% or more of the people have broken..and its not traffic tickets.  When that many people think there is nothing wrong with breaking the law, then the law itself stands to lose respect.

People must respect the law to obey it.  But if there is a law that many do not respect, and many break, the existence of that law damages respect for the entire legal system.

  20. No.  I mean, just about everything that's illegal gets done anyway some of the time.  Should we revoke laws against murder because people still shoot each other?  I think not.

But if there's an activity that is just mildly obnoxious, and outlawing it isn't likely to make much of a dent in it, you have to weigh the pros and the cons.  Is it really worth the cost of arresting, prosecuting, and punishing offenders?  Is it worth giving someone a criminal record for?

  21. If it's EASY and SAFE and the doing will be common place, it will lead to abandon of all laws to keep the law.  Also, laws that EVERYONE is guilty of breaking, will just give the police a reason to arrest whomever they wish.

By itself, it's not enough of a reason to make a difference.

  22. Well, in some cases, perhaps. There are a LOT of people in prison right now, many for the exact same thing, so I am thinking we have a few too many laws and some have got to go. Times are changing, people are changing, laws need to change too.
