  1. With the most sure-fire  method in the world: money.

Stop and think--and keep in mind that the cost of new/alternative technology drops as the market grows (economists call this "scale economies" meaning that if production is high, prices can fall--due to lower per  unit fixed costs, etc.)

Gas powered automobiles can get 50-100% better mileage.   A car with 25 mpg (as opposed to today'ws 17 mpg average) driven 10,000 miles per year willl save $600 per year.  Average savings for cars driven 15000 miles per year could eventually reach $1500 or more as gas prices continue to rise (and over time, they will).

Electric cars are now exepnsive--but  are simpler to build. When the market is big  enough (scale economies) they are potentially cheaper.  And far less expensive to recharge than a tank of gas  for a given distance driven

Even little things--like light bulbs--save money (I'm saving about $10/month)

Solar energy start-up costs are faling--and operating costs are very low. Wind power is cheapr than oil or coal.

Not everything "greeen" saves money, of course. But MOST of it either is cheaper now, or soon will be, especially as the markets grow. And--investment in these things is just that--investment tha tcreates new businesses, new jobs, and economic growth.

In short, tap into peple's self-interest.  Our energy technology will be green as grass  before you  can say "global warming!" :)

  2. There is always going to be those who won't go green, even if it were law. So my solution is to do more for the one who isn't going green. except in the face, when I talk about something in their life directly affected by not going green, and that usually involves their money. One way or another, when it gets down to them losing too much money, they will make some changes. After all, who wants to throw their GREEN money away???

  3. One at a time will do, Rome was'nt built in a day

  4. I have devised this sock-puppet play for just such an occasion.

    "I see you're a tree-hugging liberal there, neighbor!"

"yes, this is true. I have two small wind turbines in my backyard, plants freaking everywhere, and solar  combine-heat-and-power on my roof and in my attic."

    "And those bizarre lightbulbs!"

"Yes. LED bulbs almost never need to be replaced, use very little electricity, and contain neither mercury nor shards of glass."

    "Like my cfls."

"Yes, they are an improvement over those too."

"But what is this, neighbor? You have a pickup truck? What mpg is it?"

"100 cost-equivalent. It's like getting gasoline for $1.00 per gallon. The batteries go 100 miles to a charge and it easily gets me to work every day, reliably."

Word-of-mouth and ridiculous-of-gas-prices will eventually twist everybody's respective arms.

  5. Reality will set in, populations will decline, the remaining people will surely believe.  Will it be too late?  Probably.

  6. A lot of social change requires catalysts. The green movement has been around for over 20 years, but it took Al Gore to make it cool. Social pressure can create a lot of change but it takes that critical mass to really take root.

Environmentalism costs nothing, so that is not an excuse. If everyone simply reduced unnecessary waste and used just a little less unneeded energy on a large scale, that'll do the trick.

  7. Going green can be as as simple as getting everyone in the family to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Having the family plant a tree in one of your city's parks.

There are tons of ways to figure out how to help others go green but the main thing is that each one of us needs to go green before we start preaching to others.

  8. Do you think this automobile craze started all at once? It started with just a few, then when it became more affordable and accepted, everyone did it!  That's how change always comes,a little at first, then a lot.

  9. by showing them the terrible consequences of their bad actions toward nature and how that will affect themselves  and then a smart solution like going green

  10. Your not going to change everybody but that's OK. Everything you do will help and the more you do the more you will influence others. We can make this world a better place by example!..:)

Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live 100% off of the grid and are completely self-sufficient with a 0% Carbon footprint. I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

my home has all the comforts listed above plus some. we live very comfortable without effecting the environment. just saying that tolet you know it's possible. you may not want to go as extreme as me and my family but anywhere in between is something.

Without getting to in depth here, Using alternative fuels in your vehicles and harnessing your own electricity from the sun, water, earth and wind are the 2 are key elements in making a green transition and erasing your carbon footprint.

here's a calculator to find out how much of a green impact your making (carbon footprint)

if you'd like to make your next step feel free to contact me personally at www agua-luna com

I've been installing home made Solar panels. Solar stoves, Solar batch and inline hot water heaters. Solar radiant heating. Solar home heating and AC, along with home made wind gens and other alternative energy items for the last 3 years.

You can even make the above projects on site with simple parts from the local hardware stores or auto stores or junk yards. For more info check out some guides I wrote / compiled on how to DIY www agua-luna com

Again these projects can be accomplished anywhere by anyone.

if you absolutely can't do anything in your home at least you can put alternative fuels in your car. most major automotive manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, etc) recommend the use of bio fuels, and nearly every car manufacturer in the world approves ethanol blends in their warranty coverage.

In fact your probably even driving an ethanol car and didn't even know it.

    The trick is finding fuel.

I've been producing biofuel for about 3 years now, it's not extremely difficult. Basically you need general household ingredients, a processor (or still for ethanol) and some used oil. Blend it, let separate, screen and use. I complied a guide a while back to help walk you threw the process step by step, just email me or check out..

as for recyling the best way i've found without taking money from your won pocket is to join a free freecycle group in your area or visit the habitat for humanity.

If you’d like help in making your self sufficient steps, feel free to contact me directly. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at www agua-luna com

on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others “help the environment”.

Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if you’d like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, I’m willing to walk you step by step threw the process. 12. you influence them by showing how much you save and how much you are helping and making it sound awesome and very important (which it is). By just going green alone you can probably get others to follow, but the sad part is that some people never will inless forced in the future to understand the reality when the life as we know it starts to become impossible.
