  1. LOL hahahahah yes we can start in Las Vegas and New Orleans, won't they just love us if we have a sin tax, then we can pop on over to New York City and Chicago, ROTF LMAO.

  2. no maybe you have never been in trouble (that's a very good thing)

but when you do get into trouble there are so many fines to pay

even when you get a ticket depending on the ticket there are fines court costs surcharges legal fees if you get a lawyer

even if you prove a ticket unjust and get it dismissed in some cases you are still stuck with court costs

we don't need more tax the government has a pretty good racket going already

  3. No, it would simply make it profitable for Govt. It is probably a good idea actually. Come on this stuff is going to happen anyway, why not make income for the Country for it.

  4. Probably not.  There are already sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco, and people still use those.  How would you tax murder?  If you get caught for that you go to jail anyway.

  5. There are a lot of states that tax marijuana and other illegal drugs. As the drugs are already illegal, the tax is almost never paid. Rather, it allows for collecting funds from people caught with the drugs, designed to raise some revenue and provide some disincentive to dealers to carry large quantities. It doesn't provide much disinsentive, but it is a mildly effective tool to destroy mid-sized operations when you find the drugs.

The tax is paid (on those rare occasions when it's paid voluntarily) anonymously. Making you openly declare illegal activity on tax forms is a violation of the 5th amendment right against self incrimination. You get a stamp to place on the drugs to indicate the tax has been paid, then if someone gets caught with it, they just have the criminal penalty and don't have to pay taxes as well. There was a guy for a while using the stamp as sort of a brand name for his drugs.

  6. No. The "sin tax" is designed to tax the working class for their personal forms of relaxation. If you commit a "real" crime you don't get taxed, you get jail time.

  7. If I am not mistaken, the sin tax applies to alcohol and tobacco use, not real crimes.
