When a scientist preforms an experiment... he does not factor faith into the equation... nor does faith have the ability to change the outcome. He may have faith that the laws of physics are true, but if the experiment proves the law is not he would observe the inaccuracy of the law and form a new hypothesis. By evidence of the answers I have received on other questions. Christians and other religious followers would choose to ignore the inaccuracies in their religion and continue with their faith even though logic tells them it is a complete farce. Which brings me the the question of Logic. Is it sinful?

  1. if christians can't even comprehend it, how can they determine if it is sin or not?

  2. According to whom? If you buy the premise that God made us, in his own image... then we are, like Him, questioning and exploring and challenging continually.

Maybe even God grows and changes. Which is why he wasnt done with us all at once, but sends down prophets with updates periodically. And it is up to us to constantly explore and judge and choose which of us are making any sense and which arent... therefore there is not only the Torah but the Talmud, the Old Testament and the New, Nostradamus, the Quran, Charles Manson and David Koresh, the Mormons...

Take your pick. And then take your pick of the interpretations and details OF your pick... be  fundameltalist or not, Catholic or a Protestant, Sunni or Shia, agnostic or athiest, Jehovahs witness, polygamist or monogamist, hate or pity or ignore g**s, whatever.

Now ask yourself, is it logical to give me thumbs down for lumping YOUR one true way in with all those other false ways, whichever counts to you personally?  ;-)

  3. No.  Logic in and of itself is not sinful... though it may be used for sinful purposes.  Everyone uses logic, believe it or not.  Even Christians.  I'm not Christian anymore, but I still used logic and reason in what I believed, not just faith.  But I've seen many atheists twist logic and facts for their own purposes.  They don't accept the possibility God may exist.

Atheists are just as illogical than the types of Christians the question mentions, and those Christians in the question don't come close to representing Christianity as a whole.

  4. Logic isnt sinful, it is simply limited when it comes to the supernatural.

  5. for believers, certainly logic must be a sin because it contradicts almost, if not all, religions....

  6. Acutally, in science an outcome can be affected.  That is why double blind studies are used and the outcomes must be the same.  Many people of faith have been philosophers and logic is the primary tool of that discipline.  I can tell from your question that you are very intelligent, but not particularly well educated.  Stick with it.  You will see what I mean.

  7. I wouldn't say logic is sinful, but it can't always prove everything. To me, logic is only a word people use and try to prove to feel smart. Simple words and basic Christian standards are all I need.

  8. well, you can't honestly say that all logic is sinful, or that all logic is non sinful.  it completely depends on the logic.  If the bible doesn't say anything against this logic, that the logic, in my opinion, isn't sinful.

  9. Faith should begin only where knowledge ends.

You shouldn't refute real knowledge based on faith.

  10. What inaccuracies?  Just because you believe in God doesnt mean you arent science-oriented.  And it certainly doesnt mean you are illogical.  Scientific evidence, especially the makeup of the cell, points blatantly to a Designer.  It is scientifically illogical and impossible for the cell to have evolved.

It is scientifically improbably, by far, for the universe to have been made suitable for human life.

Moral relativism is illogical because it violates the Law of Noncontradiction.  Moral relativism contradicts itself.

  11.   No, it is simply replaced by faith.

  12. by that logic yes it is!

  13. Their faith is a massive multi-million pound/dollar industry involving tens of thousands of employees. The stupid don't want to listen to the truth even if they could understand it and the clever couldn't afford to.

  14. Well, Knowledge is sinful (you remeber Adam, and the whole TREE OF KNOWLEDGE thing, don't you?), for knowledge leads to free thought, and free thought just might bring down the whole Christian myth.  Stop Thinking before you wind up a logical Atheists like the sane people!

  15. If you believe in sin then I guess it would be. Man should just stop looking for all the answers, let it be, thats the basic point of life man unlike any other animals fails to understand, Let life be as it has always been. Life is just space and objects, you can name it whatever you like, you can put a formula to it all or you can just say its all god's doing, but either way your either wasting your life trying to find answers to something you will never understand or hinder your life by living the way the bible sais and ignore or condemn your basic primal instincts, either way you have missed the point of life completely.

In a way the animals have more of an understanding then we do. They live with it, not for it and not against it.

  16. Um... I guess... it's too early for all this thinking

  17. Let's not forget that some of most important works of Science was done by devout Christians.  Early science was based on philosophy. Philosophy, Logic being a subset, means to find the truth.  Truth is an absolute and reality is not necessarily the truth because reality is in the perception.  That was logic.  If don't agree with it, don't bother reading the the rest, you won't agree because you won't understand.

Since all human observation is a perception, we do not necessarily know the truth, we can only believe it to be so.  The bible was written by man, inspired by God.  In other words, man has written about God through his perception of reality.  Corroboration is one method to validate perception.  This is why the apostles have their versions of Jesus.  And this is why scientific measurements are made statistically.  Even when we make new physics and chemestry discoveries, the experiment must be duplicated with reasonablly (statistically) identical outcomes.

I will leave you with this.  We all answer questions here based on fact or what we believe to be fact.  By arranging our knowledge to explain reality, are we all not sinners by your supposition?

  18. Logic is not sinful. If logic doesn't support the claims of religion (my religion, or anyone else's), then what of it? Religion is speculative by its very nature. It is not a matter of scientific proof.

  19. Well in Spanish the word sin means without, so I guess it would be sin logic, without logic to believe un truths just because someone told you too.

  20. Logic is the tool of Satan!  Get thee behind me!

  21. I would say that, yes, logic is, in fact, sinful. If logic goes against any of the answers provided by the Christian bible (which I think it does many times). I believe it would be argued that logic is "human" rather than spiritual and therefore logic is sinful as human is a sinful state.

  22. My faith in Christ is based on logic.

Faith based on anything other than logic isn't real faith - it's only superstition.

  23. logic isn't sin

is eating when you are hungry a sin ......?

    no .....its logic.....

  24. No, I don't believe that logic is sinful. It may not be that logical to believe, but logic doesn't completely contradict your beliefs. I think that in the case of religion faith would overcome the logic.

  25. No, logic is not sinful. Over analysis can lead you into trouble in any area of life.

Christianity, if you understand it, is a logical faith. A person should be able to understand his or her faith intellectually as well as spiritually and emotionally. The problem is, most people don't understand how to read things in context, don't understand, history, and aren't willing to accept the fact that the world doesn't begin and end with what limited knowledge and understanding humans possess.

  26. Hello,

No, Catholic schools and Universities, one of which I attended teach fundamentals of logic in their philosophy departments. I took the course and got a high mark. Also ministers in other Christian faiths have told me they were required to study books and works by atheists and logical arguments against religion as a more or less " know thy enemy "  philosophy just like old General Patton studied General Rommel's books on tank warfare written before WWII which helped Patton defeat him.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  27. Logic cannot be sinful.  If God exists, he understands science's purposes in searching for truth.

The truth will set you free, remember?

  28. Yes.

"Be Still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10)

"Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." (Corinthians 1:25)

"Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." (Matthew 5:36-37)

  29. Are you talking about LOGIC or SCIENCE?

I would say that logic is not a sin, nor is science, though you need to make sure your evidence is not flawed (Remember that science has taught in the past that the sun revolved around the earth, that smoking was good for you, that mercury-based vaccines used for decades were not causing problems, etc., etc.).  Science is not always logical, as theories that are true in science for years can be proven untrue by others when different evidence is used.  Unless we have ALL the knowledge and evidence, our own scientific understanding is going to be flawed.  Every scientific claim can be proven or disproven (global warming, evolution, causes of cancer, etc.), depending on the evidence you choose to cite.

I don't think LOGIC conflicts with Christianity at all.  I believe that SCIENCE may conflict with Christianity when you cite certain pieces of evidence, and is in perfect harmony when you cite other evidence.  Even with that evidence, we are required to draw conclusions that differ from one person to the next and may be made without all the evidence having been cited or even discovered when you draw a conclusion.

Another problem may be that there is not one form of Christianity.  There are many forms of Christianity that are not logical.  I am a Christian, and my understanding of Jesus Christ and the atonement is perfectly logical.

Think about it: God sends His children to earth, knowing that we will all sin and fall short of the glory of God.  There is a price to be paid for sin, but if any of us paid the full price necessary to satisfy the demands of justice, it would kill us.  Logical choice: Find a way to satisfay the demands of justice, which could only be done by a perfect person.  If that perfect person were to sin, someone would need to pay the price for their sin as well, and they would no longer be elligible to pay the price for others.

So, how is this to be done?  Answer: That person would need to be greater than all others.  This person was Jesus Christ.  He was the greatest of all, and He lived a perfect life.  Because all of us would need this sacrifice to enter God's presence once again, we all watched those hours in Gethsemane and on the cross, hoping He would make it.  When His sacrifice was complete, we knew that the price had been paid and the path was made clear to reenter God's presence.

So, from a purely logical stance, the atonement makes sense.  From a purely Christian stance, the atonement makes sense.  Think about it:

    1. God is perfect.

    2. We want to be with God after this life.

    3. We are not going to live a perfect life.

    4. We need to become clean before we can go back to God (Remember that 'no unclean thing can dwell with God').

    5. God sent someone who would be perfect to pay the price we could not.

    6. It is now possible to become clean from sin.

    7. We can dwell with God again because of this.

    It seems logical to me.

So, final conclusion: Science MAY conflict, depending on the evidence used, and the knowledge available to us.  Logic does NOT conflict, though there are many religions in the world that ARE illogical.  Just as some science is flawed, some religion is flawed as well.
