Question:

If lower taxes on the rich are supposed to result in more U.S. employment, where are all the jobs?

Every day on the news I hear about massive layoffs, closing plants, factories, whole industries. Bush's tax cuts have been in place for a few years now. Is there a big hiring binge going on in the U.S. that I haven't heard about? For those who would cite unemployment stats, you probably shouldn't bother. There are so many unemployed who aren't covered by those numbers that those stats are next to useless.

  1. Thats because after YEARS of unemployment lower than the average for Clinton....owners are getting ready for the worst as the DEMOCRATIC congress is already trying to tax them into non-exhistance....unless your blind or stupid you can not fail to notice that the economy has gone sour AFTER the Dems took over Congress

  2. Why don't you create some jobs?  Formulate a b plan, start that business and start hiring.

Obviously there is a lot more to it than you are able to comprehend.

    fs

  3. Why do you comment on things you know nothing about? Do you know anything about the financial markets and why they're in the situation they are in (Citigroup, Wachovia, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch). Also have you checked the price for a barrel of oil recently? The price of oil has a lot of unintended consequences throughout the market.

  4. short memory. we had unemployment was less then 55.

all economic proffessionals state 5% is like zero unemployment. where did all these jobs come from. plus all the illegal jobs that were taken. don't want to hear type of jobs. a job is a job.

  5. Don't listen to the news...it's bad for you.  Maybe taxing businesses more would help the economy...but wouldn't taking more money from those companies create less insentive for them to hire?

  6. Going into the service industry where a 40 hour week will not provide enough money to support a High School graduate, living at home with parents, never mind one on his, or her own living on the economy, or an employee in a temp position without any benefits, such as medical, and or dental plans.  It's a wonderful world out there for big business, but it's like a vacuum for most everyone else.  IOW it sucks.

  7. Because that's horse$hit.

When rich people save money on taxes, it goes straight into investments.

    "s***w you and your jobs."

  8. Lower taxes on the rich do one thing: more money for the rich. Which, if you're rich, is great, obviously!

  9. The unemployment stats come from people who are unemployed who are currently looking for work. If people are unemployed and not looking for work, why should we bother counting them? You ask a question and then dismiss an answer because you know it makes your question look foolish.

Bush's tax cuts were for everyone, not just the rich. Considering rich people pay most of the country's taxes, any tax cut will give people who pay more taxes more money back. That's the way it works.

Starbuck's is closing 600 stores. Do you think that is because of the tax cuts? Perhaps it's due to the fact that Starbuck's built too many stores and people aren't spending their money on $5 coffees anymore? Maybe people used their relief check to buy useful things or maybe they are saving it.

I don't know how old you are, but before every election the media goes on and on about how horrible the economy is, ESPECIALLY if there is a Republican in office.

  10. Home Depot, WalMart, KMart, Lowes, and Target will be more than happy to hire you for $8/hr.

Those are the new class of jobs being created.  Low wages, no benefits, no vacation, and no chance of ever getting ahead.
