as they can cut fuel costs when driving north by around 25%

they would surely have a major effect on our carbon footprint.

  2. wow. I would love to see the research on this one....

  3. NO even the regular tires are dangerous.

magnetic power tires would be much more.

  4. I assume when driving south they would increase fuel by 50% have no effect east or west and how long would they last?

  5. What??!!    I assume you're thinking that magnetic tires would be attracted toward the magnetic north pole with enough force as to make a noticeable change in fuel mileage, but only while going north.

Well, if this ludicrous concept were, indeed, true and feasible, I would not make such an investment.  I would most likely use my car to go places and then return home, so any amount of time going north would be offset completely by time going south.  There would be no fuel savings.

Additionally, magnets have polar identities which would fluctuate as they spin.  I don't know if you've ever driven a car with a poorly balanced wheel before, but if you intend to go more than 30mph in a car with tires magnetically charged enough to be dragged to the north pole, then you'll have some nasty wobbling.

Finally, any tires with a strong enough magnetic charge to be so pulled toward the magnetic north would also attract anything containing iron, nickel, or cobalt.  Before long, you'd be pulling along buckets of ferrous dirt, sticking out from the sides of your tires and making them look like giant dirty tribbles.  And that's only if you can manage to mount them on a plastic car so they don't manage to magnetize and electrify the whole thing as they spin.

Ask a silly question, you get a silly answer.  Ta-da!
