  1. you idiot, do you really think that the colour of some-ones skin has got anything to do with how well, or how badly a business is run? Jesus, talk about narrow minded.

  2. how do you know that these companies arent owned by black people?  they are all listed on the stock market so anyone could own them.... personally i dont give a **** i shop at sainsburys cos i like it i dont shop at topshot cos i dont. I have never even considered who owns it and where the money goes.  Believe me the vast majority of people have more important things to worry about

  3. what a ridiculous question, people buy things from these shops because they sell what people want, not because the owner is white or black.

  4. The tone of your question is suggesting racism.

I frankly don't see that it matters the color of the owner's skin. If I'm treated fairly, the prices are competitive, & appreciated as customer, you have my business if your black, white or in between.

  5. lol no..?

  6. We no longer live in the 1950's.

  7. This kind of thinking is out of date now. Now major companies are talking about diversity. This is the present desired corporate culture.

  8. It's interesting how much criticism this question has attracted.

Earlier this evening someone posted a question suggesting that because Barack Obama is a black man, if he wins the election the country will go to ruin because 'black-run' countries are a disaster.  The person posing the question was implying that somehow the corruption and mis-management of politics in African countries will occur in the U.S aswell, if it too is governed by a black man.

Not only is this 'logic' extremely bizarre, it would actually be hysterical if it weren't so embarrassingly racist.  The amount of people who in their answers agreed with his logic was equally worrying.

Now we get this question, concerning the success -or lack of it, of British companies depending on the race of their owners, and people commenting in response are ridiculing the possibility.

What would be interesting to know is whether, as I suspect, the first 'asker' is a white person and the second 'asker' is a black person....

Now what would we learn from that?

After your 'request' for an answer.... :

I'm not sure; there's a lot of variables.  I think it would depend on how high profile the owner was and also what kind of a store it was.  I don't think it would be a matter of white people 'refusing' to use the stores, luckily we don't have racism on that scale in Britain.  It would be on a far more subconscious level if there was this kind of dispersion.  I don't think people would awarely decide not to buy there,  however I do think that it might well affect the customer base at some level.

It does however work both ways.  Think about brands like FUBU.  And with brands like Sean John, you have white people buying the products precisely because of the fact that it's run by a successful black icon.  If a mega sports store chain was started up in the UK by a black businessman it would probably be a huge success.  It's a lot to do with public perception and sterotypes.  In conclusion then, I think it could well have an effect and if it did it would be dependent on how high profile the owner was, the type of store it was, and which target group the store was aimed at.

  9. you're allowed to own shops?!?

That's not serious, I'm just parodying how utterly ridiculous your questions is... nobody gives a c**p what the ethnicity of a shop owner is... well, except for the odd staunch racist of course but then, thankfully, our country doesn't have them as a majority.

  10. Most wouldn't, but some might. These people are the same people who won't vote for Barack Obama but make up other excuses to justify it. However, how would these companies have become successful in the first place?
