If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why are they still here??

I do not believe in this silly theory. It is very easy to prove wrong. Why believe something so obscure and deny there is anything greater then us?

How can we possibly think outside of nature if there is no supernatural?

  1. because we didn't evolve from monkeys and apes. our ancenstors are human not apes! darwin's theory is ridiculous.

  2. i am so sick of this question.  please go to church and pray for the answer.

  3. sigh...I guess ignorance is bliss.

  4. Dogs evolved from wolves, so why are there still wolves?

You’re also asking “If dogs are descended from wolves, why are there still wolves?

From the National Academy of Sciences:

"If humans evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

Humans did not evolve from modern apes, but humans and modern apes shared a common ancestor, a species that no longer exists. Because we share a recent common ancestor with chimpanzees and gorillas, we have many anatomical, genetic, biochemical, and even behavioral similarities with these African great apes. We are less similar to the Asian apes--orangutans and gibbons--and even less similar to monkeys, because we share common ancestors with these groups in the more distant past.

Evolution is a branching or splitting process in which populations split off from one another and gradually become different. As the two groups become isolated from each other, they stop sharing genes, and eventually genetic differences increase until members of the groups can no longer interbreed. At this point, they have become separate species. Through time, these two species might give rise to new species, and so on through millennia. "

    From Straight Dope:

Why isn't this argument used against evolution? Well, it is--it's just used incorrectly. Let's start with a quote from the recently re-released publication, Science and Creationism: A View from the National Academy of Sciences (Second Edition).   In the section on "Human Evolution," the publication notes, "today there is no significant scientific doubt about the close evolutionary relationships among all primates, including humans."

Evolution doesn't work as a simple find-and-replace function. Have you ever seen the evolutionary "tree" diagrams in a science book?  Those trees show how different species branch off and go in different evolutionary directions. That doesn't necessarily mean everything else dies. As the National Academy of Sciences document notes, archaeological finds "reveal a well-branched tree, parts of which trace a general evolutionary sequence leading from ape-like forms to modern humans."

The NAS publication actually answers your question directly in its Appendix of Frequently Asked Questions. It says:

"Humans did not evolve from modern apes, but humans and modern apes shared a common ancestor, a species that no longer exists. Because we share a recent common ancestor with chimpanzees and gorillas, we have many anatomical, genetic, biochemical, and even behavioral similarities with these African great apes. We are less similar to the Asian apes orangutans and gibbons and even less similar to monkeys, because we share common ancestors with these groups in the more distant past.

"Evolution is a branching or splitting process in which populations split off from one another and gradually become different. As the two groups become isolated from each other, they stop sharing genes, and eventually genetic differences increase until members of the groups can no longer interbreed. At this point, they have become separate species. Through time, these two species might give rise to new species, and so on through millennia."

In other words, the "ape-like" animals that eventually gave rise to humans split up into several branches, all of which evolved in different directions. Some of those lines became become extinct; others survived. One of the surviving groups includes you and me (and in theory P.E. teachers, although one wonders). Other survivors include the various species of monkeys and apes we find today.

So, John, I've convinced you, right? Attaboy--always nice to have another ally in the fight against ignorance. Incidentally, you can find the NAS publication on the web at http://books.nap.edu/html/creationism/. Lots of good info in there!

While we're discussing this, would you explain why the church has 15 foreskins of Christ recorded or on display in various locations?

  5. alien dna is present in all modern humans

  6. that beacuse we didn't evolved from monkeys and apes. Darwing said that we all have a same antecesor way back on time. Spencer is the one that misunderstood Darwing theory.

  7. Study the laws of phisics and see if you can find a law that allows anything to go from simple to complex without help.

There is more information stored in DNA than all the books in a library. How did  the nucleic acid in the center of a cell get arranged in a certain way to instruct each cell how to grow?

We can put a man on the moon, but can't make life.

  8. This may come as a surprise to you but scientists are not incredibly stupid. Now go paint your nails and leave the thinking to the grown ups who have the first clue and don't have over inflated ego problems.

  9. There are and have been, since the time of common ancestors with apes, several species of apes. Only one species can evolve in any particular direction.  There were in fact many more species of apes around the time of the common ancestor.  We didn't evolve from all the apes that existed.  Only one of the lineages gave rise to humans and chimps .  It left the trees and evolved into a bipedal land dwelling animal that required significant selection to change the animal into an ideal bipedal form. That selection pressure didn't exist for the species of apes that lead lifestyles similar to what they had always done. The branch that led to chimps retained the ability to climb trees and bipedal locomotion was not as great an advantage to them.  Their selection pressure didn't include all our adaptations to upright walking.    The branch that led to chimps needed to maintain the tree climbing and our ancestors didn't rely on climbing trees.   We needed to walk large distances bipedally.

  10. If we are in God's image, but we came from monkeys, then does that make God a monkey??

Then again, some people don't believe in God...but there's proof in the Bible.

Also, if we did come from monkeys, then where are our tails??

We did not come from the ocean as fish that grew legs and adapted to breathing air.

They've found proof that the Bible is true. Just type it in Google.

  11. oh, I love this drinking game...*GULP*

  12. Hey! A good one!

    I've got one for Ya.

If we drink water...why is there still water?

I did my best to equal your erudite question.

    Did I make it?

  13. Why don't you just go get educated on the subject?

Why do 10 people a day ask this question...

I mean this very question shows that you know ABSOLUTELY nothing about the theory.

Once you learn a little about it (even 10 minutes talking to an expert) you will see why your question makes no sense and why nothing the person above me said makes any sense.

  14. Go ask your parents why they're still here!

  15. bacteria and other micro-organisms (including fungi) are greater than us because they are what eat dead things, give diseases(both common sicknesses and fatal)....they just eat everything and are so small but so effective in groups. they balance out with the beneficial ones fighting the harmful ones. they are the oldest living organisms on earth and im 99% sure that's what we and other plants and animals evolved from

  16. my little sister says "uR a TardBox"

  17. If a tree grows a new branch, the others don't die!

  18. If the Pilgrims came from Europe, why are there still Europeans?

  19. if it wasn't true then it should be very easy to disprove, but all the facts says otherwise.

only religious extremists and other complete idiots would refute the science of evolutionary biology in our time.

  20. If it's so easy to disprove then how come it's a theory? You might not know this, but in science a theory is something that has no proof against it and a load of proof towards it. Look it up. There is no such thing as a silly theory in science. All theories are backed up by years of research.

As for apes, the above answer with pilgrims and Europeans seems to illustrate this point quite well.

  21. Because the monkeys are cleverer than you my dear.

  22. You seem to think (like many of your ilk) that "evolved from" means that a bunch of apes were sitting around, and POP! POP! they turned into man.

    That's not what evolution says.

What you think is irrelevant. If you were interested in understanding evolution, you could read up on the topic.

The evidence for evolution is overwhelming and varied.

  23. Ok, I am sick of people getting this wrong.  According to Darwin's theory, we DID NOT evolve from monkeys.  Humans and apes share a common ancestor.  This means that the apes are not our ancestors, their ancestors and ours split off from each other a very very very long time ago.  Do they not teach this in schools anymore?  I learned this in like the 8th grade, along with the admonishment that it was only a (highly-supported) theory but that people were free to believe what they want, as long as they could relay information on the theory on the test.  You can believe what you want, but before you condemn those who think Darwin's theory is reasonable you should at least know the basis of the theory.
