Question:

If mattresses are made of horsehair is there a farm full of bald horses ?

Just a thought, and also why are goose feather duvets more expensive than duck and are there a load of bald birds out there, ifo so, why dont they have chicken duvets, seems sensible to me !!!

    No.  Horses grow an 'extra' bunch of hair (called their 'winter coat') during the Winter, just like dogs and some cats and most other fur bearing creatures.

    Goose feathers are simply softer (and thus more prized) than are duck feathers.  And, in the case of geese and ducks, there's no shortage of feathers after the birds are slaughtered for sale.

    It should also be mentioned that the only feathers used for duvets are the 'down' feathers which are underneath the outer feather layre and insulate the bird.

    Since chickens aren't waterfowl, they don't have down feathers.
