Question:

If men are happier today, than in the 70s, doesn't that mean feminism has been good for men?

"A recent study shows that, on average, American men now report themselves happier than women do. This is the opposite of what polls found in the early 1970s, when women tended to report themselves happier than men."

What are your thoughts? :-)

  1. I agree with Louise C.

Lets say what you report to be true. The only area that men might be happier in, is their s*x lives. Feminism pretty much devalued monogamous s*x. This has allowed men to treat women as disposable pleasures. Lets face it, men where the beneficiaries of the battle of the sexes.

  2. yes, that would be logical :-) comparing yours and doodlebugjim's questions, you could even go on to state that feminism has benefitted men MORE than it has benefitted women :-) of course there are lots of other variables in the equation

  3. Its a stupid survey that doesnt mean anything. Women are much better off now than they were in the 70's and before. Maybe the women are more unhappy now because they have become more aware of their potential and their value and therefore their expectations are higher. Which is a good thing in my opinion.

  4. Nice try. Here is another opinion. Women are much unhappier. Feminism is freeing Men from their traditional roles of Provider and Protector. Since Women are demanding equality, Men in the past worked themselves into an early grave to provide for a Spouse and their Children. Now Men are refusing to Marry, George Clooney broke up with his last girlfriend. And he declared he is relieved to be Single Again. He will never Marry again or have children.

Men are choosing to enjoy life rather than be Wage Slaves to Women. Who are showing by their actions in the Feminized West that they do not appreciate, respect or truly care about us. So Men are adapting in ways that benefit ourselves. Women and children will be the big losers.

As Men lose their legal standing in the Family. Government is stepping in and taking children away from their Mothers. This happened in Texas. On a false and baseless accusation. Over 400 children were taken away from their Mothers. Women fail to realize that Marriage in the past was a partnership.

Were there abusive Men. Of course there was. But they were the minority rather than the majority. Feminists intent is to demonize ALL MEN. Even g*y Men apparently. It is interesting that one of the insults of Feminists against Men's Rights Activists is to call us g*y. I never knew being a g*y Male was an insult.

  5. Feminism is good for everyone! :-)

It just means that we should treat each other with respect, no matter what gender. Feminism is just anti-sexism, so I don't understand why some men are so scared of feminists and why some women would rather have their arm broken than saying "I am a feminist" in public and being proud of it.

It's an important statement, like saying "I'm against racism" or "I'm against discrimination against certain social groups."

  6. From what I have seen, the British press (including your link) has very little basis in reality.  One of the headlines on the same page states that the U.S. is refusing to help Burma.  The truth is, the Burmese government is refusing to allow U.S. aid.  As far as men's happiness goes, I don't see (in the article) where there is a link to feminism at all.  Just more tabloid c**p.

  7. I think you probably overestimate the impact of feminism on most people's lives.  Most people are just muddling along, much like they always have done.  Women are still working, and doing most of the domestic work at home, and raising the children.  It is more common now for women to be 'juggling' work and raising a family, which is possibly why some women are less happy now, they're too exhausted to be happy.

  8. So, by that logic feminism has been bad for women. :-)

Edit: OK. Actually I agree with Louise, I don't think feminism has been particularly influential. There has been significant political and economic overhaul since the 1970s - probably by a greater amount than since the Industrial Revolution - sothe causes of any changes in the happiness of citizens will be found here.

Hope I got the references right.

I'd like to write more but I have a train to catch.

  9. According to the research I cited it is not so much that men are a lot happier than they were in 1975 (see Fig 2, p.25) but women are unhappier http://bpp.wharton.upenn.edu/betseys/pap...

There is also the obvious point that its crazy to think that the activities of man-haters like Dworkin, Greer et al could possibly make men feel happier.

  10. where did you get your info I have not seen much of a change in the happiness factor in either s*x's since the 70s the only change I have seen feminism make is Job options I was able to become a union Plumber which back in the 50s the only plumber you saw was Josie on a commercial

  11. Of course you are wrong:

This period in history saw the increase in the best thing men ever invented: the TV remote.  As more of these entered society, men became much happier.  This is especiall true when cable TV gave us more choice...

Now, I am not being too serious here, but I believe I might be onto something!

Oh, and getting onto Doodlebugjim's comments:  Yes, we are also happier because that old, whiny, hate filled harridan, Germain Greer has allowed history to prove her irrelevance for both genders.  One of Australia's worst exports.  Pity she did not leave forever.

  12. i think men are so happy coz this millenium have those new gadgets and p***s enlargement surgeries or whatever than in the 70s
