Question:

If minnows don't work....?

I went fishing today on a nearby lake and I didn't catch a thing. I sometimes don't catch anything but still will see smaller fish interested in my bait. I started today with live minnows but I also tried throwing plastic worms, spinner baits, poppers, and crank baits. I am thinking that if I wasn't getting any interest with live minnows then probably nothing was biting. does this sound about right? There were huge rains here this week, we got three inches in four hours one day and two inches the next. I wonder if there were so many critters washed into the lake that all the fish were already full?

also, others I saw, talked with weren't catching anything either.

thanks

  1. well after something like that happens the fish do not like to bite u got to give it a couple of days then start fishing again and 4 ur bait i would use live bait or a rapala X RAP but on lures make sure u use the rite colors

  2. Maby you just didn't use the right bait. Keep trying differnt things. My dad did today, and that got us a nice 24 Inch pike!

  3. Hi Nicole, when u r not too sure about your own confidence in doing things then it's a losing battle at the beginning.Maybe u r not too sure if u want a bigger fish, this situation happened to me too.The last time when I'm still a novice angler,I am really not so sure about hooking a bigger fish cos I feel guilty to kill such a wonderful fish n I thought it must have beaten lots of odds to get to such a size.So even if I hooked one I would purposely let it go n wont tell anyone about it cos if u do then the fish will be hunted down by the guys heard of its existence. After awhile,I thought I should be doing ok if I eat all my catch n only catch what I can eat.So the guilt issue was over n now I sell my catch to people that wanted to eat them, though I do feel guilty if I over fish sometimes, like the other week I caught over 20 pikes in three days.Ok I will try to help u,u see when there is new water/rain entered a lake then the fish wont hangout at the surface until bout a day. They will be at the mid water just about the 2/3 column,eg.if the deepest is say 30 feet then they will be at anywhere 11 to 21.If u don't believe me,try observing the bait/minnow they will be much comfortable

deeper than usual. Also they tend to congregate at deeper water during a storm,u can tell if u own a detector/finder.

  4. Thats the whole definition of fishing, its not called catching...Hang in there!
