If money was no issue, which camera should I get?

I'm just starting out, but I'm going to be taking a few photography classes in college and would like to eventually do professional nature/wildlife photography.

So, should I get a Nikon D40 to learn on and then upgrade in a year or so to the Nikon D300 or just get the D300 now?

  1. If money is no issue, get the D300. It's a better camera.

Or, better yet, get a Hasselblad H3D II-39MS with the 50, 80 and 300mm lenses. That would run you tad over $50,000, I think.

  2. When exactly are you going to be going to be taking the photography classes?  If it's coming up this fall, I might wait until the professor tells you what kind of camera you will need to get.  I would hold off unless you know someone who was in the class recently.

Depending on the college, you may need a film camera for the photo class.  I know of a few programs and they still stick with film.  Any DSLR is a pretty large investment, and alot of money to spend if it isn't needed for the class.

  3. Yup,

Get the Nikon D40. I have one and I love it.

  4. Get the best you can afford, the D300 or better yet Nikon D3 and one very good lens. Just don't drop it while you are learning.
