Would there be less trash laying around? And do you think its a good idea? I live in a state with this law and the roads are a lot cleaner than other states without this law.

  1. There would definitely be less trash, but this policy is just plain unfair. You want to save the environment, so you take more money out of people's pockets and make them drive back to the place where they got these bottles and cans from to get their deposit money back (hint: rise in automobile pollution).

  2. Yes..

In europe, many countries developed a (PAYT) pay as you throw program that made people pay based on the weight of their wastes.. it worked effectively..

and they are in the process of designing a program that make companies pay for the amount of CO2 they emit. it is working great.. it is called EU--- something (i forgot) sorry.

  3. Yes.  People need an incentive to recycle unfortunately.  A 10 cent deposit would go a long way towards encouraging it.

  4. i cant seem to decide...people that throw trash by the road dont seem to care much about anything anyway so probably even if the deposit was raised a little bit they would still be making a mess..but then again if people heard about the 10 cent deposit they would say, wow! lets go looking for bottles! and so the cans and bottles left by the road would get picked up pretty quick by people who want the deposit. i know of some locally that will stop thier car and get out if they see a bottle to pick up the 5 cents.

  5. Making a buck with 10 cans would be doable, 20 cans are tough to find.  I see too many cans already, I'd definitely support a 10 cent return!

  6. My state has a 5c deposit for everything- it doesn't work well.

Some places have 5c cans, 10c 2-liters and 15-25c glass bottles. It seems to work VERY well, but there's only a couple of places like that.

  7. less trash and higher real estate taxes, which would be raised to pay for it.
