Question:

If my TV has a DCATV Tuner, do I need a Digital Cable box?

I have basic Comcast cable currently. I just called them to order digital. They are bringing the box next week for one of my analog TVs. I also have an HDTV that has a DCATV tuner in it. They claim that I need a box to get digital on that TV. I would imagine that as long as digital is being broadcast into my house I would be able to pull it in with the tuner built in to my TV. I wouldn't expect to get PPV or On-Demand, but I would expect to pull in the normal digital channels being broadcast to my home.

Any thoughts?

  1. Unless your provider has scrambled transmissions from their head-end, your digital tuner would work. But chances are you will need their descrambler/converter box for digital signal viewing. This way, you'll need their hardware, and you'll be well-equipped to order PPV and On-Demand, etc.
