I've been thinking about giving my bf oral but I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want herpes of the mouth, but he doesn't have herpes, so that means I wont get them if I give him oral...right?

  1. Use a condom (yes, even for oral) and you won't have to worry. They make flavored condoms specifically for oral s*x.  Herpes is not the only STD there is, so it's much better to use a condom and be safe.

  2. You are at much greater risk of oral herpes - herpes of the mouth - through kissing people. Even a quick kiss on the lips, mouth closed, is enough - herpes is spread by skin contact.

Remember 60% of kids and 80% of adults have oral herpes, so there is actually a good chance your boyfriend has it on the mouth. You cannot tell if someone has it, because at least 80% of people who are infected never get symptoms, but can still be at risk of passing it on.

So you are at risk every time you kiss someone, unless you get them to take a blood test first. Will you avoid kissing for the rest of your life?

And there is still a risk you caught it as a child and are one of the symptomless ones...

  3. If you are seriously this paranoid and uniformed to ask this question, you are way too young to be even doing it.
