If my car mechanic messed up is there anything I can do??

Ever since the mechanic welded in a new cat converter (which I was told by my main mechanic never needed to be changed) my gas level reader is not working and someone said it might be because he melted or messed up the wire during the catalytic job. How can I prove it and what can I do about it? This happened a few days ago. Please help - it's for my toyota 4-runner.

  1. That would be impossible, the wires are nowhere near the converter. So to answer your question, there is nothing you can do except get it fixed.

  2. A melted wire costs about 5 cents to fix.  So you need to ask him if he did that. This is a test for him.  Which means you have to crawl under the car and look at it first.  If you can't locate the catalytic converter, then find somebody that can.

If it does turn out that he cut a wire, let him fix it.  Any guy who would charge you to fix that particular problem caused by himself is certainly a crook.

  3. if you simply take it back and explain to them what its doing they can check and see if they messed it up chances are  they didn't get no where near the wire fort gas gage in it,but they will check it out,and if they messed it up they can repair it in a few minutes, good luck.

  4. Take it back and explain your problem, most mechanics will at least take a look at it and try to find the problem, but remember to be nice, dont go there raising h**l.
