Question:

If my car was stolen will I be able to get police to help me go get it to my house without insurance?

The story goes:

June 4th my grandparents kicked me out of their house for getting my lip pierced. Beforehand I had put 1000$ on a car and they gave me the other 2000$ to get it. (Obviously it was 3000$.)

My name is the only name on the title or on any papers that had anything to do with the car. A verbal contract says that I will pay them back for it sooner or later (and I will), but the car is still fully in my name.

When I got kicked out they took the keys to my car and wouldn't let me take it. So now it has no insurance and it is in their back yard. I want to get a policeman to help me go get it tomorrow. (I have the title and all.) But will the police let me drive it to my house (3 miles away) if it has no insurance?

I don't think they will make me keep it on the property of the person who technically stole it from me, will they?

(It's moreless like having your car stolen by a random person. Just because there is no insurance shouldn't mean you cant get it back, right?)

  1. >> if it has no insurance?

NOPE.  You cannot be on the road.  You can arrange to have the car towed.

Nope.  You left it there. They didn't take it.  If they really stole it then the cops have to arrest them.  Do you think they will arrest your grand parents for hold the keys? Of course not.

They let you live in their house, then GAVE YOU $2000 (loan or gift) and now you want to call the police.

    Hmmm....

They are trying to help and and this is how you repay them.

You are the problem.  If you treat them right, they will help you out again and again.  Now you want to burn your bridges (TRANSLATION : BAD IDEA).

    Good Luck...

  2. not unless you have it towed or find an old insurance cad that dates back to a date that is still vaild.

  3. by law the officer has to impound the car if it hits the street.unless you have it towed.

  4. if your under aged they can keep the car in their back yard until you get insurance on it,the law probably wont get involved with this since its a family matter, they wont consider it a theft of a vehicle, good luck with it.

  5. Even if you get the car from them, you will not be able to drive it without insurance.  It would be pretty low of you to try to have your Grandparents arrested.  Now do you understand how most others view "body piercing" ?

  6. First, get insurance.  You don't need possession of the car to get the legally required liability insurance.  You will need the vin #, which should be on the title.
