  1. Yes you can, you just hook it up to your Internet, also you gotta make sure that it will work with your Internet Service.

  2. Yes

  3. The system is set up like this.  You connect the wire from your broadband modem to the "LAN" connection on your wireless router.  If you have a nearby computer that you want to connect with wire, the router has a few (4-6) wired connections.

To start, connect a wire from your router to your laptop.  The router company will have a web site to set the system up.  Look in the documentation for the site's IP address.  It will look something like 200.45.192.1, four sets of numbers separated by periods.  You type the address into the Address bar on your browser.  When you get to the site and log in (the router's books will tell you if you need a password) it will ask you for the user name and password you use for your broadband company.  They need this because the router is going to log you onto the Internet when you start your computer.  While you're at the setup page, setup a password on WEP or WPA (WPA is better) so no one can 'piggyback' and use your connection.  After you're done, disconnect the wire and log onto the router wirelessly.  You'll have to enter the same WEP or WPA password only once, and from then on you're set to go.

    Good Luck :-)

  4. Just on a point raised by someone elses answer make sure it will work with your internet service, unless you have your very of T1 line directly to the exchange your grand, most routers will do , PPPoE, PPPoA, static, autodetect settings, and thats all there is to it, but dont let the shop tell you that you need a special vista router as this a pile of c**p, you can get any xp suited router cheap and if it does not work then simply upgrade the firmware from Manufacturers website for free, have seen so many people pay 3 times the price for something that is not needed. Vista compatible, the biggest scam by PC shops in history sure any router will work, except if its made by belkin or crappy D-Link., so to answer your Q, Yes you can

  5. That is all you need.  However, there are security issues with wireless.

If you don't already have a wireless router, you may want to think about buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

You can use the powerline instead and turn the wireless off.

If you already have a router, you can purchase this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

If you are still sold on wireless, that's OK, but MAKE SURE YOU SECURE YOUR WIRELESS!!!

I suggest you use WPA2.  There are 2 types of WPA2: enterprise and personal.  Make sure you enable personal for your use.  You also need to set this up on the computer with the same exact password you entered in on the router.

The directions should tell you everything, but just in case they don't, here is a guide:

    First, change your SSID.

    Setup WPA2

Go to your computer and get your computer connected to the wireless.

Go back to your router and disable your SSID broadcast.

Of course the other thing you should do unrelated to wifi security is to create a password so that nobody has access to your router.

  6. Sure. You want to configure the wireless adapter. Netgear and Linksys are good brands but linksys can be pricey. D Link is a good cheap solution. Or you could get a cheap refurbished router and get the  300Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader™

TEW-637AP. This plugs into one of the Ethernet ports. It then gives you wireless N speeds and Coverage (Speeds only if you have an N card or adapter).
