  1. It would really depend on each merchant.  But if you have no money in your checking account, you should stop using the debit card.  Besides whatever is being allowed to go through, you will be charged an overdraft fee for EACH transaction.  You need to check your account right away and deposit the money to cover the overdraft before you cause yourself a really big problem.

  2. As long as there is nothing physically wrong with the card, it should work.

Not having money in the account, that is another problem.

  3. Yes, as long as the magnetic strip is OK.

Edit - Well if that's the case, you may be able to use it if you select "Credit" instead of "Debit" when selecting payment method at the cashiers register.

The difference is that when you use debit, it will ask you for your PIN. When you enter it, it will access the account like at an ATM and retrieve the money immediately. Credit on the other hand may require only a signature and may take a few days to post on the account. That's why you were able to use it online.

Therefore, you'll have a higher chance of being able to buy what you need if you select credit.

  4. The only reason it wouldn't work at the store is because your running it as a debit card.

Not all stores can actually do that.

Run it as a credit card and it should work just fine.

Unless you have no money in the account!
