If my employers pension contribution is 6% what will min contribution be?

Will it also be 6%, is it normal for the employer and employee to contribute the same? or will I have to contribute more than 6%?

    contribution rates can and often are quite different. Your contribution can be from nothing upwards.It depends on what is stated in the rules of the fund which you should have received. If not ask for a copy to which you are entitled. If you are still have any query ask the administrator of the fund. He will be pleased to advise you.


  2. It depends on the scheme.

    These days it is likely to be a 'Money Purchase' (aka 'defined contribution') scheme, in which case it is quite likely that your Employer will 'match' your contribution, typically on a 1:1 basis (with 6% being the maximum they will 'match').

    If you are really lucky, it will be a 'Final Salary' (aka 'defined benefit') scheme and 6% is merely the current rate the employer is putting in. In that case you contribution is likley to be less than 6% ...

    As already suggested, why not ask your HR/ Admin dept. contact ? (or go direct to the Pension Trustees / Administrators ?)
