  1. Not neccessarily.  Most of the cops i know have a close relative or two that have been arrested or convicted of a crime.  I happen to know a couple of cops who have entire familes that are criminals.  Both are good cops and are friends of mine.

it also depends on the town.  smaller towns and smaller police departments who know everyone can be prejudicial, but not always.

  2. Yes but if you have no record then that will help you out you should be accepted you just will be looked at more.

  3. Unfortunately yes, it will affect your hiring status... But you can try nevertheless...

  4. Every family has a black sheep or two floating around somewhere. In the end they are hiring you and not your family. I am aware of a colleague in the QLD police service who grew up with terrible abuse and surrounded by criminality, he is now a long serving police officer and has even published a book about his early life entitled 'The pyjama Boy'.

Apply, good luck and hope to see you soon amongst the thin blue line.

Funny thing tho' ; I am an Australian decended from first fleet convicts, so does that make me the black sheep?
