I was born in Australia as was my father and grandfather. My great-grandfather was naturalised in 1904 three years after my grandfather was born. My great-grandfather was born in 1851 before Italy was unified, and come out to Australia in 1881 and died in Australia in 1932. What I want to know is this: Is my great-grandfather considered to be an Italian citizen if he was born before unification but died after unification?

  1. Yes. But you need a lot of paperwork (eg yours, parents and grandparent's birth certificates and possibly marriage certificates).

    Information re Italian citizenship: http://www.italiandualcitizenship.com/

    Italian embassy: http://www.italian-embassy.org.ae/Ambasc...

  2. Ask the Italian Embassy.
