  1. a NZ visa means nothing in Australia, two different countries. he will need to apply or an Australian work visa

  2. As other answerers have said, Australia and New Zealand are two completely separate countries and visas from one country are not valid for the other.

That said, if Automotive Technician and Motor Mechanic are the same thing, he won't have very much trouble at all getting even an independent (non sponsored) permanent visa. Sponsorship requires effort and expense on the employer's part and I doubt it will be necessary in your case. Motor Mechanic is on the Migrant Occupations in Demand List (MODL) and if that's what he does, his visa application should receive priority processing, particularly with a job offer in hand. An applicant for a MODL job must have solid, recent work experience to be eligible.

Following are direct links to the immigration web pages you'll need to look at:

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s... (the points test - MODL applicants with job offers and experience have no trouble with this)

  3. No; NZ and Australia are two different countries, you can't have a visa for one country then skip to another.

He will have to apply for a work permit - if he's been offered a job and they sponser him, it's alot easier.

  4. NZ work permit is for NZ not Australia
