I have heard that if sailors opt to be stationed in a foreign country they cannot be deployed to sea, but I am not sure if that is true.

  1. of course he can be deployed..at sea or otherwise.  we have ships permanently assigned OCONUS..Guam, Japan, Italy.

he gets sea duty.. he deploys.  and no one is exempt from being sent IA.

  2. False.

  3. We have ships that are home ported in foreign countries. Two major ports in Japan alone. Yokosuka and Sasebo. And those ships constantly move from 7th Fleet area to 5th Fleet area (Western Pacific Ocean to Arabian Sea and the Gulf). We have the 5th Fleet headquartered on Bahrain Island in the Gulf. Just a hop, skip and a jump from Iraq.

I don't know where you "heard" this story about non-deployability from foreign shore, but advise whoever said it to check their water source.

  4. False.  There are Sea Duty billets OCONUS in foreign countries in which deployments do happen.  There is quite a few ships in Japan for example including a Carrier and LHA/LHD that deploy frequently including 6 month deployments and longer.  They can also be assigned to a Unit that deploys to a location whether it is for days, weeks or months.

  5. Not true.  Many OCONUS stations are the base for sea duty.  Depending where he is sent and if he is due for a sea tour, he can be gone just as easily as if her were stationed in the states.

  6. You can be sea duty overseas. I was stationed onboard the USS Essex for 2 years in Sasebo Japan. It was a Forward Deployed Naval Vessel which ment we spent more time at sea than at homeport. There are many ships stationed in overseas ports. Most of them are stationed in Japan.

In addition to ships there are many squadrons at overseas bases which are sea deployable.

whoever said there was no sea duty overseas was very wrong.

  7. Absolutely false.

No matter where you and your husband are stationed, whether it be CONUS or OCONUS, there is always the possibility of him deploying to sea.

  8. no thats not true...we were in japan and on a base that had all four branches of the military..there were navy people that were being deployed and what about sasabo in japan...they leave from there all the time
