A lot of the greatest novels of today's world are about the tragedies of love, family, and friends. Try both!

Tragedy is often the starting point towards writing or other artistic endeavour.  Write or go out into the world?  Why not do both?

From both a business strategy standpoint and a personal opinion standpoint, I think you should go for the best-seller first.

For people to actually be interested in hearing all this knowledge you have to share, they should ideally know something about you or your story, and what better way to get that exposure than with a best-seller?

I don't know about you, but I tend to think most people would not go hear someone speak if they'd never heard of them before.  Also, social workshops and other counseling clinics are not likely to have you speak to their clients or groups unless you have some kind of qualification or -again - are known for your experience or story.

Go for the book first.

i go for 'the lead many by shining example' rather than the 'save the world one person at a time' method.

So write.  

work out what the most important things your life story will tell and then put that in a NOVEL not an autobiography. why because far fewer want to hear <i> your <i> story than want to hear <i> a <i> story. and you can still get the same points across.

think you could always do both. Because of your story- you would be able to reach out to many others that may be in situations like yours.
