  1. no because its only 1.23 it yours can hold up to 6mb so your ok

  2. A pixel is 3 bytes, so an uncompressed 6Mpx photo is (very approximately) 2Mb. If you are looking at the size of the .jpg file, then you are probably very much over the limit. Your actual picture size should be no more than about 3000 x 2000 pixels. Most digital cameras produce photos with a 3:4 aspect ratio (width:height) so the maximum size will be 2172 x 2896.

Reduce the size of the photo using any convenient photo editing software (I use Irfanview, which is free), save the file as a .jpg, preferably with a different name, and try uploading again.

The formula for an uncompressed (BMP) picture should be [pixel height of picture] x [pixel width of picture] x 3 / (1024*1024) ... plus a few bytes for header information ... or Mpx divided by 3. A JPG file will often be only 1/10th or 1/12th of that size.

If the upload limit were expressed in Mb (rather than megapixels), it would be a different matter because a .jpg file is compressed and a 6Mpx JPG would normally be less than 1.23Mb. Since you have put it the way round that you have, I assume that the site you are uploading to uncompresses the files and stores them as uncompressed BMPs (for some reason best known to themselves). Actually, Flickr and many other sites automatically store several copies of your photo at different sizes from thumbnail up to full size. The size restriction may be due to what they can reasonably display in a browser.

  3. 6MegaPixels refers to the resolution of the picture. The 1.23MB picture has nothing to do with the capacity of your memory card. It all depends how much memory you have on your card. The higher the resolution the bigger in size the file will be. So basicly you are talking about apples and oranges.

  4. There is no direct correlation. Pictures are compressed so 6 megapixels is actually less than 6 megabytes. I am sure that a 1.23 MB picture is still way under the limit.
