How high of a chance do my children have of having colored eyes from my side of the family. Any guesses as to what genes I would have inherited? I am into genetics a lot! I would appreciate the help.

  1. it's clear that ur x chromosome possess' both blue and brown eyes genes so if it fuses with chromosome of a female having an eye colour dominant then blue ur child would never have blue eyes. However if her eyecolour is black your child wont have brown eyecolour too.

  2. well u probably r like a cat. cats aren't really like there parents. they r more like there ancestors. research ur family history and find out who u got it from. my grandma and grandpa had blue eyes and all (8) of my moms bros and sises had brown eyes except her. good luck

  3. As there is not one gene to determine eye colour it is difficult to distinguish eye colour it is difficult to lable what eye colour you may pass on to your future children. However, there are other factors that can influence your children's eye colour aswell, such as your partner's eye colour, but for the purpose of this lets say your partner's eye colour is blue for instance.

Every human has 46 chromosomes in each cell, this is 23 pairs, although there is not one gene for eye colour lets say it is due to one chromosome.  Also, every person has gametes (s*x cells) these only carry 23 chromosomes which are half of your 46 chromosomes in your cells.

    Eyecolour:

(capital letters are for the dominent gamete)

Blue eyes may have the chromosome= bb

Brown may have the chromosome= BB

Hazel eyes may be a mix of these= Bb

    So if you were to have a child with someone with blue eyes then your gametes might be 'B' and 'b', and your partners may be 'b' and 'b'. So all the possible outcomes would be;

    Bb- Hazel

    Bb- Hazel

    bb- Blue

    bb- Blue

    50%

However, this is unaccurate and only a guess considering the previous information (lack of knowledge of your actual chromosomes and parteners chromosomes and partners chromosomes, etc...)

  4. well dark eyes are more dominate...so chance of you having a child with blue eyes is pretty slim although not impossible

  5. You are going to have a very healthy boy and two girls and the color of their eyes will not matter to you.......print out and save this. It will be your life. (I know what I am talking about)

  6. although darker eye colors are more dominating...light eyes OFTEN skip a generation ( if one of ur parents had them and you didnt, ur children might)!

And since ur eyes are hazel and not dark brown maybe you are carrying the blue eye gene! Also it depends on ur partner..if ur partner has light eyes or his parents do....i think your children will have light eyes as well =)

  7. For me that question would be best answered if I new the color of your parents eyes. It also depends on the father of your children. But as of right now I would guess you have a 3 to 1 chance of having a child with brown eyes.
