If my motherboard is shot, is the computer still worth anything just for parts?

I am interested in trying to get a little bit of money out of it, but don't know if the parts are worth anything since the motherboard is fried. Thank you!

  1. You will be lucky if the recycling center will take it without charging you.

  2. So, do we guess the specs of the hardware or are you going to tell us.

  3. Specs as in what is your System Information.

I am sure she was not being smart She was simply asking so she could actually help you

How is anyone after all supposed to answer is we know nothing about the system,??

No info on how old it is and to be honest now days a computer loses value really fast

for instance I built a top of the line last August.

This August you can but the same thing for less than half the money I spent to build it last year.

So used parts well they are not really in demand and used parts from a fried system are even less in demand

No one wants them and to sell them to someone when you do not even know about them or know if they are good or not is just wrong.

If you do not know what specs are or what your system info is and know nothing about  computers How do you intend to sell the parts anyway?

how do you even know what is wrong with the system?

9 out of 10 it is not worth anything  and secondly if the motherboards is fried so are other parts.

  4. Not gonna get a lot for old parts. I suggest you not sell the hard drive unless you do a government wipe(low level format) so you aren't a victim of identity theft. May want to sell the tower "as is" and let whoever buys it put a new motherboard in. I take old towers in on trade, reimage them then sell them for as little as $100 so you aren't gonna make a lot. Could give it to a kid and let him/her learn about computers by fixing it. Good project.

  5. depends.  if the motherboard is shot then other components may be fried as well.  are you sure it's the mobo?  a bad power supply can also give the impression that the mobo is bad.  if you haven't checked it most PC repair shops will test your power supply for free.  if it is the mobo then i personally wouldn't risk harming a new PC just by throwing a potentially bad component in it.  (not all bad hardware will fry a new mobo but depending on the type of damage it can potentially do so).
