My ex husband had a car, that was in my name, and he got new insurance on it, the thing is, the insurance didn't have my name, it had he and his girlfriend only. Do I have to be on the policy? I was always told I did...

  1. you are supposed to collect as much as resource as you can by searching the relevant keyword in search engine,if you have good luck there, then your problem solved.however,if you could not find the fitful answer by doing that, here is the resource i prefered.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  2. You WANT to be on the insurance policy, because, hey, if the owner gets sued, you want to be covered!  If your name isn't on the policy, you don't have any coverage.  If the car gets totalled, the policy doesn't have to pay, because there isn't "insurable interest".

So yes.  You need to be on the policy.  Or you need to insure it on your policy.

What you REALLY need to do, is retitle that car over to him, and get your name off of it, so you can't be held responsible for any damages it does.

  3. Yes, you need to be on the policy.  My mom and dad bought a car for me for a college graduation present last year and since they are financing it, they are on the title even though they don't drive it since they live in MN and I live in TX.  However, I need to have them listed on my insurance - they are an excluded driver, but they are still listed as they have an insurable interest in the car.

  4. yup ...  I recently looked into getting a policy for myself on my bf's car and they needed his name on it ...  didn't need his DL info, just his name ...  and they verified it through the VIN ...

I live in NC, so not sure if all states are the same ...
