  1. You have to get out of check as soon as your opponent calls it(on your move). It can be frustrating when you can mate the next go, but that's the rule, sorry!


  2. Of course, if you can block check and put your opponent in checkmate in the same move...

    Recently I played a game where I had a Queen vertically from his king, with my bishop between them.  His Queen checked my King, and the bishop moved to block the check AND cut off the King's only escape square (since he was now in check from my Queen).

  3. I would advise you to move out of check first, or you'll just be plain doomed before you can manage checkmate.

  4. If you are in check, any move that does not get you out of check is illegal.  You have to get out of check first.

  5. Yes, you do have to move out of the check first. It is technically possible though, for the piece that breaks the check to create a check or even a checkmate.
