  1. No! I have a friend who goes to UCR and his parents made 75k and that was too much for him to get aid.  He had 3 brothers 2.  That isn't poor...... they usually only give it to poor people!! U might get subsidized loans but that is as good as it will get.

  2. probably school loans is all you'll get....unless you are 1/4 american indian. Why don't you look it up?

  3. Unfortunately, I do not think they will provide you with much financial aid. I would recommend that you first apply for financial aid by filing an application with FAFSA @

www.fafsa.ed.gov  This is a federal grant. With this filed, you can also apply for a Cal Grant @

    www.csac.ca.gov

The best thing to do is to go to a community college and complete your IGETC (this is to transfer to a UC), which will take 2 years and then transfer to a UC. This way your education is great and at a low cost. Also, UC's give priority to community college student.

Once in a UC, if they accept you, they will try to give you a university grant. UCI gave me a $4000 grant aside from the federal grant and state grant. Go to the financial aid office for information on grants, loans, and scholarships. Apply soon so you won't miss out!

This is some of the information from www.universityofcalifornia.com on grants:

    How to Apply for Aid

If you think you'll need financial assistance to attend UC, you are responsible for applying for financial aid, completing necessary forms and meeting deadlines. When you fill out the University's application for undergraduate admission (online or on paper), you automatically apply for scholarships administered by the University. Some UC scholarships require a supplemental application. More information is available at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission...

    File the FAFSA

To be considered for financial aid such as grants, work-study jobs and student loans, you must submit separately the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

Even if you think you may not qualify for financial aid, it's a good idea to file the FAFSA anyway — almost two-thirds of UC students qualify for some sort of financial assistance, and each year millions of dollars in aid money goes unclaimed. It takes only a little time to complete the application.

File the FAFSA between January 1 and March 2, 2008.

If you have filed for financial aid while in community college, you may be able to file the shorter renewal form online. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and choose "Fill out a renewal FAFSA."

    Cal Grants

If you are a California resident who does not already have a Cal Grant, you must also file a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form.

California residents should file California's GPA Verification Form between January 1 and March 2, 2008.

You can find this form at your community college or any UC campus or high school or by visiting the California Student Aid Commission website.

  4. It depends what school and what program you are looking into. You could always call the school's financial aid office and meet with a counselor. However, from experience-- if you are going to a school that is more expensive, they'll be more willing to give you aid or scholarship money. On the opposite side, if you are looking into going to a school that isn't so expensive, you most likely will not qualify for aid. However, there are many programs that help you to go to school for cheap, or even free. Check out the EOF programs in your area, or a community college transfer to four year program. There are definitely resources out there, you just have to find them. Each school is different, but apply for financial aid anyway, you never know!
