I don't fit any of these criteria:

- You were born before January 1, 1984

- You are or will be enrolled in a masters or Doctoral degree program at the beginning of the 07/08 school year

- You’re married on the day you apply

- You have children

- You have dependent other than your spouse who live with you and who receive more than half their support from you at the time you apply

- Both your parents are deceased (or were until age 18) a ward of dependent of the court

- You are currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training

- You’re a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

is there anyway to qualify as an independent since my parents refuse to support me financially? an help is greatly appreciated

  1. No.

You have to report their income just like everyone else.  Them providing it doesn't mean they are going to help you in any way.  Sorry.

  2. no :( i'm in the same boat as you, my father claims me on taxes even though he doesn't help me pay for school. you should look for scholarships you may qualify for, and you'll probably end up with a lot of loans. it may stink, but its worth it in the end
