If my record player doesn't have a volume k**b, what should I do? Also, how do I know to put it on 33 or 45?

The player sounds really quiet when a record is on and I can't find a volume k**b anywhere! Also, the needle keeps skipping across the record. Like, it'll start moving towards the center. I don't know what's wrong!

  1. Is this serious ??

    a. wire turntable to an amplifier

    b. turn up volume on the amplifier

    c. albums are usualy 33rpm , singles 45rpm

    d. good turntables have anti-skate & counter balance. adjust them! if turntable cheap then check needle may just be caked in dust.

Hope this has helped if this was a serious question if not cheers for the laugh !!

  2. The other answer is excellent.  I'll just add that you need to check the balance of the tone arm on top of his good advice.  See if you can find a tone arm scale at a music supply store.  The tone arm needs to be heavy enough not to skip but light enough not to wear the record excessively.  Some people will tell you to just put a nickle on it or something, but this is not the correct weight.
