  1. Yes you can watch channels 2-13.

  2. If your new apartment has cable and you will be getting a cable box it will work fine. You will have to use the cable box though which will convert all the channels to channel 3, 4, or composite video.

  3. Cable companies have cable boxes that can let your old TV pick up all channels

If you are unlucky, you'll have a cable company that has an "all digital" system. If that's the case, then you won't be able to pick up any channels without using a cable box. Not even 2-13.

But most cable systems still have analog TV service.

If you  connect your TV directly to the cable jack,

on most cable systems you can watch channels 2-13 since these are usually identical to the broadcast channels.

But the UHF tuner will not work on cable. UHF channels do not correspond to cable channels. If your old TV has a separate UHF tuner input, you can attach a UHF antenna their to also pick up any UHF broadcasts.

You can use any old cable ready VCR (most VCRs made in the last 20 years) as an analog cable ready tuner. Just hook the cable to the VCR and set your TV to channel 3 or 4. The tape portion of the VCR doesn't even have to work. Use the VCR's tuner to change channels.

Your new cable company or your new landlord can  probably tell you what analog cable channels they have. They might even have the info on their web site.
