  1. Considering that Russian soldiers were loudly complaining that they live like bums when they were looting Georgian military base I wouldn't put too much faith in them.

Soldiers who steal enemy's used shoes won't make good fighters.

Russian special forces are much better trained and have good combat experience in Russian "peacekeeping" operations.

  2. remember when the Russians attempted to invade Afghanistan? oh yeah the Mujahadeen(sp) were real pushovers!!! I think your appraisal of the Russian army and "middle eastern soldiers" is a bit less than accurate.

I hope we aren't "ready" to get into a shooting match with the Russians we already won this war by just waiting for them to spend too much money and bankrupt their country. time to save the tanks for parades and get US soldiers home.

  3. The Spetsnaz at least is very well trained but I know that our SF Forces including the SEAL, Green Berets, and Recon Marines are either equal or better...

  4. Absolutely.  The United States houses the Marine Corps, the "Finest Fighting Force in the World", proclaimed by many around the world.  The Marines have never lowered their standards in the training protocol.  In fact, they are increasing it; with the Strategy 2021 that is being implemented and the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.  The Strategy 2021 is make-shifting many of the the non-combatant job fields, they are plainly phasing them out and to be assumed by civilian personnel (i.e. Admin and the Cooks).  By 2021, there should only be 10-percent of servicemembers in those fields.  Since terrorism is becoming the major factor, they are evolving.  The Marines will still be spearheading a major theater of war too (they aren't just making way for insurgency and terrorists) as we have been for 234 years.

Even though Russian has their Spetznaz, but we have our SEALs, Green Berets, 75th Rangers, USAF Combat Controllers, and the Marine's Recon Units (Division-level and Fleet Marine Force-level).  Plus we have the largests and the best trained Armed Forces that the US can ask for; one cannot forget that war is fought by the 'real' warriors, the Army and Marine Infantry, the SOF units only support them by participating in 'specialized missions'.  Don't expect to see the SOF units doing all the fighting while the grunts stand at the sidelines!  Even though Israel has been fighting for 40-50 years against their neighboring states; we Americans have been involving our nosy faces (according to the Foreign Policy) for 200 years!   The Marines have always been in conflicts for every 3-5 years since its creation in 1775.  Before Sept. 11th, Marines were involved in the Haiti, Kosovo, and Somalia.  And of course, the Gulf War.

And you cannot dispute about how trained the Middle Eastern military forces are in comparison to Russia.  They are very determined and well-trained.  Russia had a struggle when they were invading the Middle East.  Even though Russian forces are larger in substantial portions, you should never underestimate the enemy, respect your enemy!

  5. Got to admit, the Russians had good contingency planning for protecting people in South Ossetia from getting slaughtered by Georgians. Although by all accounts, the Russian soldier in the field is not trained to make field decisions nearly as well as the USA field troops.

  6. Of course they are.

But the problem is, we don't have enough of them these days...  Some idiot named Rumsfeld and his side-kick Wolfowitz determined we could down-size our military and still win.  They're the real traitors.

  7. You so obviously don't know c**p about Russian soldiers.  They are nothing more than a horde of criminals with guns.  Their training, except for maybe their Spetnatz commandos is a joke.

  8. The only good answer to this is that our soldiers are trained to take the fight to the enemy now and go on the offensive and best them in battle no matter who they are!

The Soviets love to pound their chest and scream and yell.  Yadda yadda.....whatever.....

To my own chagrin, this change in strategy is the only GOOD thing that has come about in the past eight years and, as much as I choke on my own words in writing this, Donald Rumsfield was largely responsible for it.

    Regarding the word "training".

Our people join the military for a variety of reasons.  But once boot camp and the subsequent discipline is instilled in what formerly was a bunch of goof balls in civilian life, they learn history and most importantly OUR history as Americans and the merits of patriotism and defense of our way of life as Americans.

I have very very rarely! ever met a former slacker who became a soldier or sailor et.al. who wasn't 100% dedicated to defending their country at ANY COST.

Even at the expense of their own lives.

Call me an old fool, perhaps I am.  But I'll go the extra mile for our people in uniform.  I'm a vet.  I understand......

Video games are kindegarden stuff.  Fun, but there's no sniper at your bedroom window preparing to "take you out".

Our people face that every single day so you can play those video games......

Edit:  iwas1ncthr said it best.  Mine was a good answer.  He's fifteen years younger than I am but he has the BEST answer!  Hats off to you iwas1ncthr.....

  9. It appears you may have overlooked US brigades in Europe preparing since 1945 to fight the Russian soldier.

  10. There are interesting specials that show how different country's soldiers are trained.

When was the last time you saw how our US infantry was trained? Trust me, it's much, much better. There's a reason that our soldiers, and moreso Marines, are feared world-wide!

  11. It is better for our countries not to meet on a battle field. Because it means war between our countries. And do you remember about nuclear weapons. Thats why we live in peace.

  12. Yep, in fact, most of our training revolves around training against the soviet model. BTW, your faith in the russian troop is naive, and misplaced, at best.

Oh, and many of those middle eastern soldiers? They were trained by the former soviet union.

EDIT: "Movies and Games".. that is your 'source', Movies and Games??

Dude, no offense, but those are based on fantasy, not reality... I thought it was a serious, but uninformed, question, but "Movies and Games", please.

  13. IF you try to compare other forces against the training of the US there are only a few that are close to us in this. The Brits have the SAS who are very high speed, the Germans have there version of the SEALS and the best trained IMO is the Israel Army. The US soldiers are trained how to effectively kill in distance and hand to hand combat. Marine boot camp for instance places you as a rifleman first and foremost. This means that cook who is whipping up your omelet with cheese in the morning could drop a round in your chest at 500 yards just as easy as that grunt Marine in the field.

You may have seen some Russian training on tv like discovery channel showing where the russian troops get abused and have others running across there midsections and such. This serves in no way but humiliation which in combat does no good. The US trains all it's military to realize what is called "natural point of aim" and tactical war fighting. This has made our forces some of the most effective in the world. I don't judge the US military capabilities based off of the current wars due to the stranglehold that our idiotic officials have upon them. WW2 shows what the US was made of and we whooped azz in such a manor that many wont even talk about it today.

The US has taken some of the worlds best tactics and has implemented it into it's training standard. We train in ambush, counter ambush tactics, tracking, sniping, counter sniping and a book load of other things. This isn't even bringing into account our spec ops units like Force Recon Marines, DELTA, SEALS,  Air Force PR and such.

Looking at statistical facts the US would hammer Russia within minuts. It would be like another Iraq invasion. Look what happened when the CIA stepped in and helped Bin Ladin back in the 80's against Russia? This wasn't even the US, just our very small supply of arms and a little tactical traing to the Afgan fighters who put a hurting on Russia. Russia may have nukes but in an all out war they would get slaughtered. The only country I wouold ever fear if we went to all out war with and trust me, this is hard coming from a prior Marine would be the IDF. Israel is some of the best trained fighters in the world. Say what you want about them but these guys kicked major azz during the 6 day war and they got attacked from every country around them wihtout prejudace. Another group that was pretty intence was the Korean Rock Marines. These guys train 24/7 365 and the only way to beat them would be to drop off a few cluster bombs in the mountains .

The other issue to look at is the ground. Is it a war at home or in there country? America happens to not enjoy takeing out innocents who are in the way such as Iraq. We have countless cowards for Allah over there useing wemon and children who cannot defend themselves and are a pathetic bunch who doesn't even deserve mention. Why the people are not takeing up arms and slaughtering these taliban cowards is beyond me. Jihad my azz, I have 13 inches of Jihad called my right foot that I would place in ones taliban azz if allowed. Anyway back to the main point, US military training is very high speed. What makes us better in many ways is that we are structured and every man is capable of performing the job of the next. If a Sgt dies in combat the Americans will not freak out and run away not knowing what to so. They simply let the next man in line like a Cpl take charge and continue the mission. The US also does another thing that not many others do and thats that we keep coming until the mission is done. IF it is a hill we will keep coming until that hill is taken. IF the Kremlin was our goal, we would not stop until we scribbled a mustache

on Putins painted picture. Hope that sums it up for you. Please forgive my Marine mantality of rambling on about the ME. I fought ther 2 times and I have some pretty blunt opinions .

  14. No! Russians have have a secret weapon unavailable for US troops: The Zerg Rush! The force of an attacking army goes up to the square of the number of attackers and they proven they are capable to mass millions of soldiers willing to die while US troops require land bases close to the action and the sea. US troops don't know how to fight effectively in masse or away from a sea port. They like to operate in "raids" of a few thousand soldiers at the time with backup form a nearby fortress. Not good enough.

Also, the US public doesnt have the stomach for losses. Once you inflict a few thousand casualties to the US army the public will scream for and end to any war, thus handing victory to the enemy.

  15. Before the "war on terrorism" that was pretty much what our military trained against. Our military has never forgot about the Russians only some of our leaders and citizens.

While I'm disappointed with Pres. Bush letting his guard down, years ago, to the Russians, I know at least McCain was not fooled. McCain said he looked into Putin's eye's and saw K.G.B.

But us standing against the Russians will take resolve and standing firm on our principles. We beat them before without firing a shot, we can do it again.

This will be fun to see how this plays out my friend.

    Keep The Faith.

  16. Most of the battle between advanced soldiers will be done with technology!  They won't even see each other's faces.

See battle between declared enemies is a whole lot different than fighting an unknown enemy that mixes with cultures of a country but does not represent that country!

Rememeber the invasion of Iraq under GW 1?  I think it lasted 31 days total and Kuwait was restored from their takeover!   That is the kind of conflict in Georgia you could expect!   It would be over in probably less time than the first Iraqi war with the coalition/US!

And probably more men and machines at this point would be destroyed also.   It won't be pretty for the Russians, I will tell you that!

In Iraq, sad to say, it has been said by some that over 1 million Iraqis have died in the conflict and that is with a very difficult situation to determine who the enemy is!  When you KNOW your enemy, it happens much quicker and unless your enemy surrenders, there are many more enemy casualties from this!

This would not be a good time for the Russians and they know it!  More than likely though, the cold war will start all over again and the Russian government will begin to try to build up their military might again!
