  1. i do rooftng  yes it should be dry but you should take off all the old shingles because the law only lets you have only 3 layers of shingles if there's more then that they will make you take it off so take it off down to the wood and put on your flash, paper, and shingles btw hot is better because cold them brittle and they break ask home depot they have the answers

  2. Let your contractor decide how soon after rain before roofing.  Most concern is not to get rain while roofing.  The best shingle depends on where you live and what your weather is like.  It also depends on how long you plan to live in your house.  For the most part the labor for putting 30 years asphalt shingles is the same as for 50 year shingles so how long you will live there is the basis for deciding which to choose.  You should avoid shake shingles if you live in an area that has problems with wildfires.  You should get an estimate from your contractors and get their recommendations and why they recommend a certain shingle.  Then use your own judgement. Check with the BBB to make sure you have selected a good contractor.

  3. The more important question here is why you are making him wait if your roof is leaking? Shingles are best put on when it is cool out. Not cold. If it is hot they can be damaged by walking over them. The best ones are what you can afford. The roof can be damp to put the shingles on.
