I mean you can work out, run, and practice basketball. Only you can stop yourself. And who doesn't want to be the best? So why isn't everybody good?

  1. Because human beings are very very good at keeping ourselves from getting better.

  2. I believe part is that a lot of people do not want to be good at basket ball or it is a lesser priority in life. However if you are suggesting that the players that exist are better because they are tall and you can't make yourself tall, well, that is called natural talent. Sometimes that can be trumped by determination

  3. Yes, only yourself can stop you from getting better. It's because many people make excuses and think they're never going to be good. They don't try. People who turn out great are the people who realized it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of bad days to become great.. Just gotta keep at it and know you'll make it. Not a lot of people know that.

  4. Genetics has a lot to do with athletic talent as well.  And not everyone cares about sports enough to get good.

  5. People are lazy. But you also have to get good grades if you want to make into the NBA. So that can stop you. But if you just want basketball as a hobby, then anyone can be good if they practice hard.

  6. That's the right attitude, but you do need athletic ability and that god given talent.  You can practice 24/7 but if you can't jump high enough or your body is not strong enough, no amount of practice is going to fix that.

  7. Most peoplre are lazy. But people with i mind like yours will always get better because they have a good work ethic.

  8. I think somebody needs to wake up from their day dream. There's nothing wrong with having a positive attitude. But a lot of things can stop you from being better at something. And many of them are out of that person's control.

  9. I think you mean to phrase your question this way,

"If nothing can stop you from getting better at basketball, except your own will, why doesn't everyone practice to become good?

Some people don't find basketball interesting to play.

Some people don't really have a good basketball IQ to get better at the sport.

Some people aren't determined or motivated to go beyond.

  10. because of genetics

  11. well not everyone grows to be 6'7 200 pounds!! and when people say "god-given" talent it means just that. there are kids out there born to play ball.  im not saying you are born a pro but some people are more fortuante that others. who has it easier: a 14-yr old 6'6 player who everyone sees as a basketball player or a 14-yr old 5'7 120 pound kid who no one sees potential in.  the 6'6 kid will get more help and effort put in him because he has potential unlike that skinny kid.

  12. Lack of Passion, Heart, Sacrifice. This is what separates the goods from the bads, and goods from greats.

  13. INTEREST. The thing that stops people from getting better is their interest. If your life is all about basketball for example. You will want to do something else than basketball. There are many things that you can do in this world like play baseball and soccer, paint, draw, play a musical instrument.  Other things may intrest the person. Example: You love to play basketball but like to play the drums more. So in conclusion the thing that stops people from becoming the best is INTEREST.
