If one has twins in your bloodline(fathers side and is the oldest female child). Will I have twins?

Im 27 years of age(female), my father has 2 pairs of twins on his side, what are the chances of me conceiving twins?

Actually, if the twins on your father’s side are fraternal and were birthed by a female, blood relation to your father (mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, etc.), then you have a hereditary chance of having twins.  This is because hyper-ovulation (ovulating two or more eggs at a time) may be an inherited gene.  Hence, the appearance of several sets of fraternal twins throughout many generations in some families.  It’s a common misconception that twins only come down through the mother’s side.  This is only true when the father is the one with twins in the family and he is also the one trying to conceive twins.  To put it a bit more simply, the male only provides the sperm, whereas, the female is the one who either ovulates two eggs (fraternal twins) or one egg that splits (identical twins).  That’s why you can still inherit the hyper-ovulation gene from a grandmother, aunt, etc. on your father’s side.  But he didn’t have any hereditary chance of having twins himself when he had you and your siblings.  Make sense?    

I don’t think that being the oldest female child really has any bearing on your chances.  It’s just a matter of inheriting the gene.

By the way, identical twins are not hereditary and happen randomly throughout the population without rhyme or reason.  In fact, the scientific community still has no explanation for why one egg spontaneously splits in half.  They are rarer than fraternal twins, but just about anyone could have them.
