A friend of mine was wearing white bell bottomed trousers out tonight when attending a party. Before she went out her sister said to her "Ooh, be careful...you know what wearing white trousers in public means!" Actually she doesn't know, if indeed it means anything at all! Does anyone out there have a clue what her sister might have meant, or is her sister just trying to wind her up?

  1. i've never actually heard of this saying haha, it isn't a tradition or anything in england if you wear white trousers in public, she probably just means be careful, you might spill something on it, white stains:|

  2. Well, I know that when we were teenagers it used to be 'red shoes means no knickers'!  Skinny white jeans seem popular with lots of playful young women...but they can look amazing if you wear them with the right top and shoes....maybe NOT red heels and a bra top?

  3. Not a clue...sounds strange if you ask me!

    Ask her! haha.

  4. It means it's the wrong time of the month. Have you ever seen an advert for tampons/panty liners etc etc? Always wearing white trousers and playing tennis...

  14. I think it refers to the fact that you're likely to spill something on you if you wear white.  That's why I would say it.
