If people get loss in the mountains or forest, would the rescue find them by their cell phone signal?

  1. If they have reception and a strong battery, they could track their signal to the nearest tower. From there, they would see what other towers they are nearest to, and work it out somewhat accurately. It might take a little while to find them, but it would be much better than searching by air or land.


  2. If they have a GPRS function they can be tracked.

  3. civil GPS is not as accurate as the military one, but is possible, provided there is reception and the batteries are charged and the system is on!

  4. OK the obvious answer is if they have a signal, couldn't they just CALL someone and tell them where they are? Like "I'm standing by a lake with a mountain on my left" They wouldn't be that lost then would they.
