If people want to unionize your workplace how can you stop them by forcing people into it?

If you are an employer, you might want to consult a labor attorney because what you can do to stop unionization of your shop is highly regulated by the feds.  Many places though threaten to completely close their operations if the location unionizes.  This isn't terribly credible if your workplaces are in one location which prevents you from shifting production elsewhere.

      If you are an employee and prefer not to join, you can't be forced to join, however there's ways to intimidate you into joining by the organizers.  Unfortunately, congress has repeatedly brought up rule changes to eliminate anonymous voting, which makes your preference against unionizing as a worker an easier target for retaliation.

    Just about any HR text book has a chapter on this issue.  Most Biz school use Mathis and Jackson's Human Resources textbook.
