  1. No that's silly.  Everyone has a chance of having a mentally challenged kid no matter how "good" they are.

It isn't right to make fun of mentally challenged people though.  They can't help it.  How would you like it if people teased you unmercifully and treated you terribly because of how you look or talk or something?  It would be miserable.

I actually went through some of that in gradeschool and highschool.  My difficulties were mild compared to someone with Downs Syndrome or something, but they were severe enough to make it impossible for me to play sports and made me stutter.  I have a very lazy eye that has gotten better with exercises that I still have to do sometimes.  It was really bad when I was a kid as I was born with it.  It was so bad that I saw everything double.  That made it impossible for me to catch balls or hit anything with any accuracy.  It also made it really hard to learn to read and write and do math.  I went to a very small school of about 100 students total so there was no escape from the bullies.  Sports and rodeo were everything in that little town.  I could do neither so I was an outcast.  I had a few friends who were also outcasts for other reasons but everyone else either ignored me or were terrible to me.  So, I know a bit about what it's like.

  2. You mean like poetic justice? It's a pretty rare thing,I think,and

maybe not so just for the kid. I would say no.

  3. no, it doesn't work that way, none of us have that kind of power.  We should all be thankful we don't get what we truly deserve.  It would be truly horrible if we were punished for every ignorant thing we said or did.  That's where grace comes in, thankfully.  Most of the time, mental difficulties can't be prevented.  There are some cases where it's caused by malnutrition, lead poisoning, accidents, etc.  These are all unfortunate cases to be sure, but not an act of retribution by nature.

We should treat others with compassion at all times, however, because we may never know when we will be in that same place, and simply because it's the right thing to do.  Every person has inherent worth and dignity, no matter what package they come in.
