If Prince William wanted to marry a Catholic, would he have to abdicate before he married her, or would he abdicate by 'default' when he actually married her?

  1. If Prince William wanted to marry a Catholic girl, she would have to become a member of the Anglican church.  I don't expect he would abdicate.  She would have to become a Protestant.  This is not a negotiable matter.

  2. It is already known in royal circles that Kate Middleton will be Prince William's bride by early next year. She is not a Catholic, so your question is redundant.

Just to humour you, I'll answer your question as a serious hypothetical...

If William (as King) wanted to, and finally did, marry a Catholic, he would:

    (a) put forward, and ratify, a bill to Parliament, amending his title 'Defender of the Faith' to 'Defender of All Faiths'  which his father, Prince Charles, has stated he would do anyway.

    (b) change the Magna Carta to include consort sovereignty as 'quo-regina nullus' staus so as to include his wife to be of 'heir gravitas' religiously speaking.

  3. It's already been seen, what some people will do, for their

so-called "faith", even though there was no likelyhood of

succession!! If you truly believe in U'r faith, nothing would

disuade U to change! Lip service only! And I'm not a Catholic!

  4. He would lose his place in line of succession;he can not abdicate because he is not the king--only monarchs abdicate.William would simply ask to be removed from the line of succession, unless the bride converted to Church of England.

  5. A very large sections of the UK population would not want William to marry a Catholic.  In any case, there is an English Law which expressly forbids the heir to the throne from marrying a Catholic.

I'm aware that Catholic forces within the Labour UK.Gov want to change the rules and are pressing hard to eliminate any law, such as the one I have described above.

I ought to give Catholics fair warning.  While they are 'tolerated' here in England they will never be allowed to have their way.  Everytime the Catholic Church speaks, it should remember that this is a powerful 'Protestant' country and will not bend to any proposal put forward by any Catholic.

So, my advice to Catholics, is to carry on and enjoy your lives and feel free to express an opinion but never, not even in your worst nightmare should you ever tinker with the Monarchy or any other 'Protestant' aspect of the lives of the British people.

The British monarch is the head of the Anglican Church - the Church of England.  We do not accept the Pope in any other rank except Bishop of Rome.

    Dream on. . . . .

  6. She'd have to convert to the Anglican church.  That's all.

  7. If Prince Willaim married a Catholic he would by default automatically forfeit his place in the line of sucession being replaced by his brother.

  8. If Prince William marries a Catholic, he will be permanently excluded from the British line of succession. His Catholic fiancee will be given a period of time to discuss the possibility of entering into communion with the Church of England. If she agrees to give up her faith, like Peter Philip's Canadian fiancee did this week, Prince William will retain his place in line as the future "King of the United Kingdom."

If Prince William's Catholic fiancee decides not to covert her faith, therefore, he would have forfeited his place in line "by default", and this will only take place "after" the deadline is up for making a decision by his fiancee. Prince William will be replaced by the next royal in line, and in this case it will be his brother Prince Harry of Wales.

  9. She would have to covert to the Church of England and abandon her Catholic ways.

  10. Under the cruel and blatant State Sponsored Act of Sectarianism, known as the Act of Settlement, William would be required to relinquish his right to the Throne.  The Act outlaws Roman Catholics in isolation from becoming Sovereign or the Sovereign remaining thus or becoming Soverign after marrying a Roman Catholic.  This Act which is a total anachronism, goes against all equality laws which outlaw discrimination on grounds of age, s*x, sexual orientation.

Peter Phillips, who is shortly to marry a Roman Catholic will lose his right to be in the order of succession.  All this whilst the Government is to change the order of succession to give (rightly)females an equal footing!

The Act of Settlement, which has never been tested in law is expected to be referred to the Court of Human Rights.

P.S. The title used by every monarch since Henry VIII - Fidei Denfesor, "Defender of the Faith" is in fact a Papal Honour bestowed to Henry for his defence of the Catholic Church whilst the reformation was sweeping Europe.

  11. They would change the law before it happened.  No Catholic will change their religion inwardly....once a Catholic...die a Catholic inwardly anyway.......another thing....The High Church of England is sooooo Catholic anyway so whats the difference?   Listen to one of their services and then go to  mass to see what I mean.

  12. its tricky, a royal family members wife just renounced her catholicism  soon after her wedding, and it made the front page (albeit small section) of the Telegraph

  13. He can marry anyone he likes but would have to give up his right to the throne if she is catholic.

  14. He would automatically lose his place in line for the throne, the monarch could not marry a Catholic because being a catholic the kings children would then be catholic. As the King is the head of the church of England this would show a conflict of interests.

  15. No, they've changed the rules about that I think, or they're going to anyway

  16. He wouldn't have to abdicate unless he was already king. But if he wanted to marry a Catholic he would have to give up his Right to Succession (to the throne) which, in his case, would be quite a move given that he is 2nd in line. And yes, he would have to give up his rights in order to marry the girl before the ceremony.

  17. either thst or she would hav to swop over to anglican/christaian .. whatever it is
