  1. Mathematically speaking if you are playing a losing casino game as all casino games are and you are actually winning money, its not a matter of if, but a matter of when you will lose what you have just won provided you continue playing.  Therefore it is in your best interest to quit while you are ahead.

Quitters lose less also, dont forget that.

  2. it usually refers to something that is obviously doomed, but the person pursuing is to blind to see it.  like if someone is committing  crimes and has gotten away with it over and over, but keeps doing it thinking they will never get caught. or someone whose gambling and just short of losing everything, keeps going

  3. idioms are just folk lessons that may or may not contradict other idioms when examined literally.

    Example:

The early bird gets the worm

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

Literally: You can't catch the early bird.

  4. Because THEY (whoever THEY are) quit before they thought of that. :0)

  5. Because they want to confuse us.

I'm still trying to figure out which of these two sayings is correct:

    "Haste makes waste" or

"Slow and steady wins the race."

  6. They are for two different circumstances. The first one (quitters never win...) is meant to be a life lesson. However, "quit while you're ahead" is a gambling lesson. In gambling, you can win a ton of cash, but if you keep gambling, eventually, you'll lose it all again. So it's better in gambling, to quit when you have a profit, than to continue on and go into the red. However. After you quit while you're ahead, if you want to take what you origionally had, and gamble it. If you make more money, great, if you lose it all, well, you're still better off than you were before.
