Weekly Standard editor Fred Barnes appeared on Fox this morning to discuss his recent meeting with President Bush in the Oval Office. The key takeaway for Barnes was that “bin Laden doesn’t fit with the administration’s strategy for combating terrorism.” Barnes said that Bush told him capturing bin Laden is “not a top priority use of American resources.”

  1. Look at the structure of a terrorist organization and a military. The military leads from the top down. Terrorist organizations operate in independent cells. They have an overall intent from the top, like Bin Laden wanting to kill Americans. The cells then plan and carryout their own operations. So getting Bin Laden would be good for publicity but have little to no effect on Al Qaeda's operations. Therefore, incessantly seeking out one man is a waste of time and money

  2. smoke and mirrors my friend....In every US aggression there has 2 be a perceived enemy so that democracy shall prosper That's  excuse for America to expand its influence..But america isn't  sending troops to poor countries with nothing 2 offer were ppl are dying by the millions like africa..

  3. Because americans are stupid

  4. because for a while nobody even knew if he was alive.

  5. Why what?  We are still at war with them and trying to get them out of power.

  6. A: think progress is pretty left leaning. try to balance your info gathering. however...

B: They (al-qaeda) were just patsy's. Do you realize we built all their training camps? Osama was a CIA tool against the russians back in the day. He only became a bad guy because we NEEDED a bad guy. Read 1984.

  7. If Bin Laden was killed, I doubt much would change. If anything, the terrorist threat would be increased by those seeking revenge for the death of their leader.

In a similar way, if terrorists killed the president of America or any other country, it would not weaken that country. It would bring the nation together and make them more determined for victory.

  8. Clearly, Al Qaeda is an issue- in terms of its the public front for all the wrong doings that have caused the US such a great headache.

9/11 was an inside job. Al Qaeda was the point man, Iraq was the goal.

The line the US is now taking is going to drive the world to the ******* brink- its going toe to toe with Russia over Georgia, knowing that its Georgia is in the wrong here.

But hey, the US got the polish to sign up to the defence sheild, and then provided lots of patriots to aim at the russians- just in case.

Overall, Bush needs stability in his oil supplies and he thinks he has secured it. I want the russians to make the next move and s***w him over.

If Iran closes down the persian gulf- then expect the **** to hit the fan!

  9. why are we allowing one of them to run for president...........
