If "money plays" in a poker room, can you announce that you are all-in only counting your chips?

I know that if you want to CALL an "All in", you must include all of your money on the table including chips and cash. But I was wondering if you were the one making the bet if you could announce that you only want to include your chips in your "all in".

  1. You absolutely should not use the phrase "all in" unless you intend to bet all of the money in front of you, including your chips and any cash on the table. Even adding the qualifier, "all in, but only my chips" won't work, since "all in" by definition means that you are betting all of your money and some casinos may consider that a verbal declaration of "all in" that is binding (although, truthfully, some floor staff may be more forgiving. Also, being "all in" implies that you can no longer bet, whereas if you only put your chips "all in" and money plays, then you can still bet/call with your cash in play.

Now, this may not be part of your question (and it may be obvious to some), but I just wanted to verify that your cash does not play unless it is on the table prior to the start of the hand. So, if you have your cash in your pocket or wallet, then that cash is not part of your stack and calling "all in" will only commit the chips/cash on the table, as opposed to whatever cash you may have on your person. For anyone with experience at games where cash plays, then this is probably well known, but a lot of places do not allow cash to play, so for a person unfamiliar with the concept, that detail will be helpful.

  2. No, "all in" includes everything on the table, but only what is on the table.

Just know the amount of yours chips and call that amount, if that is all you want to bet.

Lastly, if you ever declare all in, when it is your turn to bet, everything you have ON THE TABLE, both chips and cash, IS NOW A PART OF THE POT according to the rules.

EDIT: If you declare, "All of my chips are in," then only your chips are in play, but if you declare, "I'm all in with my chips," you have just mistakenly bet all of your cash as well as you cannot amend the declaration of "All in." (NOTE: It also depends on who you are playing with and where. If you are at the house with friends, they would probably let you go with it, but if you were playing other professionals, and especially if your "All in" caused one of them to go "All in" as a call, then you would probably be held to your declared ALL IN bet.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  3. Ok..if you don't want to use your cash...then don't announce the 'all in" ...common on... if money plays... than money plays... why ask such a redundant question?

  4. Its not all in if you dont put everything in is it now

  5. If you have cash sitting on the table (in play), you have to put it in as well, if you're going "all in"...

  6. If you have money on the table, and you say all in, your money goes into the pot too.
