If renting a car in San Diego to drive into Mexico,?

does my American Express covers the insurance for my rental, or do I need to buy Mexican Insurance for it at the rental place?

  1. Liability insurance from the United States is not valid in Mexico.  You can obtain a short-term liability policy at the border...

    Comprehensive insurance (for damages, for instance) is between you and the rental company.  Make sure you let them know that you are going to Mexico.  Rental companies in San Diego are fully aware of the process...


  2. Most cards do not.  I don't have American Express, but I know Visa and Mastercard don't.

  3. I would let them know you plan on taking the car out of the country. I'm sure the rental is more expensive. They will learn about it anyway with the GPS in the car.

    Most rental agreements say they are for in state driving only!
