If a reward for lost bag was made in an ad for providing info, the offeror withdrew it when he found the bag. B called & provided info. Does the offeror need to pay reward to B?

  1. Depends on the wording. Did you offer a reward for the actual return, or did you offer the reward for information LEADING to the return? If you offered a reward for information LEADING to recovery, then the person SHOULD be rewarded because if you had not found it yourself, the information would have led to finding the bag. In essence, you got the information you were offering a reward for, so you have a moral obligation and should pay the reward, especially if the person calling called before the offer was withdrawn.


  2. From a lawyer.  Good first year law school question.  You are entitled to the reward if the offered reward was for information leading to the discovery of the bag and it wasn't withdrawn in the same manner that it was posted.  

  3. No.  The offer was made to provide information to find the bag.  If the bag was already found, the information is of no use.


  4. The payment was for the bag.  The bag was found, so what's he paying for?
