for them?

That just happened to me. My son was along side me and I had both hands full, and he usually stays right beside me. I dropped a few things and when I bent over to pick them up he wandered off toward the door. When I saw that he was already pretty far away, enough to where he would look like he was alone..... to my horror a woman held the door open for him and he walked right out the building. I had to drop everything and run after him, I realize he is my responsibility...what would you have done?? Should I have just yelled his name? I knew he couldn't open such heavy doors, I don't know, I feel stupid for such an incident.

  1. It's a mistake, you did the right thing by going to get him when you saw what was going on.  In my job I get to deal with parents whose child has walked a block or more away sometimes...it's disturbing to say the least...she shouldn't have opened the door for a kid that wasn't hers and you prob learned a lesson about something else to expect when you are out with ur kids...

  2. No, having a child of my own i would know not to do that, i would have stayed with him and looked around for a flapping parent! But still no excuse for the persons stupidity.

  3. There's no reason to feel stupid.  If it were me I would have NOT opened the door but instead waited to see where their parent might be.  Especially if the child seems to be walking alone.  Most people who do those types of things don't have children, or just aren't paying attention.

  4. shut the door and asked him where his mom / dad was . when he / she pointed the parent out , i would then take said child to the parent .  a toddler should ..NEVER.. be allowed out of a store with no adult / parent around !!!  the woman was not smart about this in the least bit, and i hope if she has children or is going to have them in the future she ... thinks about what she did...AND NEVER allows a child out of a store again...hers or anyone else's !!!

  5. Nooo. You shouldn't hold a door open for a toddler who seems to be alone! You look for their parents. I would have gotten mad at the lady, although I probably wouldn't have said anything.

  6. No I would not

That women must not have children

I was at a restaurant when my daughter was about 3, and I was leaving.  A larger group was behind me, a little boy around 3 pass me, on the way to the parking lot.  I said You can not go in a parking lot

    The boy stopped

The father laughed, the mother said thank you

The boy could not understand How I knew he could not go in the parking lot

My daughter is 8, If we are out in a restaurant, and the bathroom is past the front door, and I can not see it, I have to go with her.  I was out with a group of mom's, all the girls were in 2nd grade, some thought my rule as dumb

    Most, like the rule

Something to thing about when your son is older

  7. OMG! no i would not open the door for him not at all, especially if this is in a busy area, no way in heck would i do that, what was that lady THINKING!??? don't feel stupid!! things like that happen all the time, and a responsible adult would have at least made sure you son wasn't walking out of the building, you could have yelled for him, or yelled to her to please not open the doors, but at the same time you were trying to pick up your stuff, kids are so fast! they can get away in 2 seconds flat and all you have to do is look at your shoe and look back up and they're gone, don't feel bad, but next time it happens i would yell for him to come back so at least someone knows he's with you and if that doesn't help say something, you can be nice about it.  But don't feel bad. You did nothing wrong, just someone else's ignorance and/or stupidity

  8. i am a parent too.as well know just in two seconds kids go out to try an explore anything they can...i would not open the door but look around too see if the parent is closed by,but if not take them to one of the store employees to make sure they can find the parent...it is not always easy to watch one child while shopping or cleaning, especially when they like to discover the whole world...i had to get a harness for my son,he would even climb out a window as small as two believe it or not..my hands was full.and i never left his side over the way he was so curious and not afraid of anything or anyone one....

  9. no way! i would never open a door for a kid who was alone

don't feel bad, you should firmly tell your child never to wander away (he might not know better) and try to always hold his hand or keep him in a stroller

if all fails you might try one of those child leashes

my little sister has a pink one, she doesn't mind it
