If so how long does it take Cedar to loose most of it's scent?

I have a head board that was suppose to be in pine but through confusion was ordered as cedar. I was just wondering, if it does, how long it will take the smell to dissipate. Should i consider shellacking it or sealing it??

It's a nice smell but can be over powering sometimes

thanks,

  1. they have found cedar in egyptian tombs that still smell like the day it was cut,, lol. try lindseed oil rub it in it will do the trick after a few coats..

  2. There are 2 kinds of Cedar.

First you have Cedar in various grades for:

      Fence Posts

      Fence Boards

      Paneling

Kiln Dried "A" Grade for Furniture

Second, from a completely different Tree, you get:

      Aromatic Cedar

This is used for Cedar Closets and Chests.

I doubt your headboard was made from Aromatic Cedar. It has an odor that takes years to go away unless you seal it.

The odor from your headboard is just a "New Wood Smell."  It will go away in a month or so , or you could seal it.Could you put a picture up? I would know which one it is. 8/3
